Hi,
i got my chameleon on the 30th last month, and I was gone for today and yesterday. came back now but when i did come back it was night so he was asleep. I came close to his cage and turned on his lights but at first when he did wake up his colour was green opened the cage and put some crickets in and he blew up his chin and turned completely a different colour with brown spots. he was acting a little bit crazy. he went on the roof of the cage and tried to climb the sides, was shaking a little. when he became calm i gave him some crickets and he ate about 6-7. he is 3 months old... i think . but i just wanted to know how many crickets i should be giving him. i also wanted to know if he is okay after that inseident.

p.s. any tips on finding out how old he really is... i don't trust the pet stores. :(

He's a veiled right? Veileds can be a bit hissy, especially when you surprise them.

Post a picture with the chameleon on a ruler and people can give you an estimate on age and feeding.

how long is he? does he keep hunting after he eats? my cham if about 12inches long (but his species has super long tails) but he gets 9 3/4" crickets every other day. but your cham if probably still growing and will need alot more than that. remember they also need a few diffrent feeders so they dont get board. try getting some dubias(dont worry they are not as bad as they sound),mealworms(only as treats and try giving them while they are molted and white),large flies (only if ya know where they came from dont want disease),superworms (idk how often i have never had them), and maybe try getting some small horned worms from mulberry farms. wc feeders are great to just make sure u know what they are and know that they have not had any pesticieds or had access to tomatos or anything else thats toxic to them. also remember that fireflies are a BIG NO NO!

You know the old expression: "Let sleeping dogs lie"? It goes double for sleeping chameleons. Unless it's an emergency (house on fire, must move chameleon) don't bother them at night if you can help it.
