Yes i did read your BLOG.. I aint missing the point and i know this aint NO local pet store. If you would read all of my messages they have to deal with all chameleon queations. I don't know were u get off telling me this is pet shop. Okay thanks for WARNING me that the UVB i am using right now is dangerous. Like i said before i am currently a NEW cham owner as of 3 months. If i would of known the bulb i bought was not good for my cham, then i would of NEVER bought it. That's why i am asking questions on here about my chameleon..

Nobody here means to attack you, and it seems you think we are from the tone I picked up while reading your post. I assure you, we would just like to inform you of what could be changed to make things better for you and your chameleon. Please don't take advice as an attack, we all mean well.

You misread my post. I did not mean that chameleon forums is a pet shop. I meant that when your looking for advice you should consult the members on this forum and listen to what is said on here. Rather then the pet store that suggested you use a compact bulb. I am trying my best to provide you with the information you need. Please keep the public confrontation to a minimum and lets get back to the main point of this discussion, which is your cham.

I don't use the tube as for his light. All of my lights are from zoo med. I do dust his crickets with calcium and D 3and vitimans (not all at once) i switch off on the week. The last time i dusted him with crickets was 2 weeks ago. He is now eating goliath worms and silk worms. He just like to climb . He is a very active cham. I made him a rope in my room for him to climb from the bottom of the floor to the top and he loves it. He is always wanting to be on it. My cage is all screen i never used a glass for him. The problem when he trys to escape is becuase i let him out of his cage like everyday. So thats what he use to. I know that stress out a cham, but i feel bad for him being in a cage all day. And if i aint home all day and he hasn't gotten out he gets all mad when i came home and take him out. My cham is a very picky cham. All he wants is to be out of his cage. I try not to take him out but its hard. I do use UVB light it cost me $20.00 it the one the is twirly.The pet shop told me that will best for him. He has showed us his beautiful colors. His colors are just different from other cham cause he not that expensive cham then like a panther, etc. He turns black, light green, and an army green and gray stripes and green.

You can't let human conditioning take control of the way you raise your cham. He isn't a dog and doesnt need walks outside. If you feel he is overly active, then he may need a bigger cage. How do you know he's mad that he doesnt get out?

again....all this tells me is that there is probably a problem IN the cage.

The petshop also told me that having a water dish, a glass enclosure and substrate was best for my cham, but clearly it isn't. Your local petshops arn't even close to as knowledable as the members on this forum, and for your cham's sake i hope you take the advice from them, and disregard the info given to you by your petstore.

As you said....you are a new owner. Due to this i don't believe your able to understand your cham on a level where you can tell that he needs to be out of his cage.

3 months isn't EVEN CLOSE to enough time for him to get used to anything. In my opinion he is still getting settled in, let alone creating habits.

I have to agree, many users, including myself may seem a bit mean, or aggressive when giving advice, but you have to understand, most people could care less about YOU, but what they do care about is your cham, and are giving you advice to better your cham, not yourself.

Please take all critism on this forum, as constructive critism. Why would I or other members want to offend you. You might leave the forum, and now we just lost the connection to your Cham, and may never beable to help him.

We are doing this for your cham, bottom line.

What the people on this thread are trying to say is, Pet stores sell products that claim to be good for chameleons, but that isn't always the case. I know along with everyone else here that you would never intentionally harm your chameleon. But, some of your methods of keeping are a little off. That is to be expected as you are relatively new to the keeping of your chameleon. Let me say I'm sorry if any of the members have discouraged you from using this forum as a resource. And, I am personally sorry that some of the members may have hurt your feelings. I'm positive that WAS NOT their intentions. Some are a little too aggressive with their tactics on how to help people. It comes with being passionate about the amazing hobby of keeping these marvelous creatures.

Your twirly bulb (aka compact bulb) is bad for chameleons despite what Zoomed may say on the packaging... I've been duped by pet store items that have claimed to be the best for my hedgehog and my chams. And it totally sucks to be out money. I would definitely replace your twirly bulb with the Repti-Sun 5.0 uvb tube light ASAP, like the other members have suggested. Till then I'd turn off the twirly light and make some time to take your cham outside and let him sunbathe under your watchful eye (make sure not to place him on anything that could have pesticides on it... I generally just let them sit in their plant from their cage or in my hand)

As for your handling... I know it is hard to hear that you are over loving your animal, but think about what is best for your chameleon. Less handling is always better. Maybe your cham needs more height to his cage? Find other ways to dote on him, like maybe some tasty fruit as a treat or a nice juicy horn worm, or even a new plant or some more vines to hide in? Don't get me wrong I handle my chams, but not in excess. I am guilty too of letting my own emotional need for my animals to show affection, but I have learned through much research and hands on experience that chams just don't like it. I used to think my boyfriends veiled cham didn't mind being handled b/c he was not aggressive once I picked him up, and he would just run and climb as fast as he could. Truth was... he was just trying to escape and get away and hide. I don't blame him though.. I'd be terrified of me if I were that small and being picked up out of my habitat.

More height and more hiding places (ie more vines and shrubbery) may help decrease his longing to escape.
