Joopasaur's Fiance

Chameron

Hello all I've talked to a lot of you already threw my fiance's username.

She got annoyed with me constantly taking the laptop away from her to use her name.

And finally had me just make my own =]

So my name is Cam!

It's nice to have my own name on here =]

For my first question on my own name:

I know it doesn't have to do with chams but..

Does anyone(I am sure a lot of you do) know the requirements for housing a crested geckos?

I know this is a chameleon forum but I also know a lot of you have Crested Geckos =]

I actually own 2 crested geckos. And, although not an expert, here are the basics for housing:
-Never put males together. Females can live in harmony with each other provided there's ample room, but you'll still have to watch them
-Provide plenty of moisture. I hand mist 3 times/day. You don't want it to be constantly soaked, but there should be a good amount of moisture in the enclosure ater misting. Make sure you get the sides (ssuming you're using glass, which you should.)
-Provide LOTS of foliage! The geckos will sleep in the elaves and areo nly comfortable when they can hide in the leaves.
-No supplemental lighting/heat is needed - they do fine at room temperature and do not need UVB. In fact, too much heat (above 80 for long periods of time) can kill them.
-Height is best. Crested geckos are an arboreal species, like all other rhacodactylus species.
-Bed-A-Beast is great substrate. I use anywhere from 1-1 1/2" of substrate.

That's about all! Feel free to ask me if you have any more questions about them :)

Thank you!

I am really considering getting one at a reptile show in april but I am not 100% sure yet

They're awesome, although can be quite jumpy! :p I would recommend an adult personally if you were to get one, as they tend to have more of a laid back personality.

I wouldn't consider using a substrate or a having planted viv until you are sure it is eating and pooping regularly (paper towel would be good.) You can use screen if you can keep the humidity up and they dont usually need any source of heat unless it drops below 68 (or maybe it was a tad higher/lower.)

A great forum to check out is http://www.pangeareptile.com/forums/index.php

If you buy a baby, a kritter keeper is usually it's first home as a large 10 or 20 gallon tank would make it hard to find it's food. If you are buying an adult a 20 gallon or an exo terra terrarium is good. They dont need bugs, so get crested gecko diet. Should you choose to feed bugs once a week or so they need a separate tank/container to feed in if you have a planted viv. If you use just paper towels you can feed them in there, though some people have had them take a chunk of paper towel.

If anything is wrong I'm sure Syn will come and correct me :D
