Jacksons temps???

I recently got two small jacksons. A male and female appx 4-5 months. When I first set up the new enclosure I had them together (they have since been separated) but I put in a 75w basking bulb a few inches about the cage top. The basking area read 85f measured with a digital temp gauge. The ambient temp was around 70.

I knew jacksons liked it a little cooler and was told by someone to remove the bulb that it was WAY too hot. I didn't think it was that big considering they were in a big enough cage with plenty of space and places to hide.

Now I have them seperate and thought that the 70f temp was too low with no basking spot. So I put in a 40watt bulb and brought a basking spot up to 74-75f.

Is this good? Should I change anything? Am I close or way off? Some help would be appreciated.

They both seem to be ok. Male has been drinking and eating. Female hasn't done much since I moved her to her new cage yesterday. Which is pretty bare bones til thursday. She has a big scheffelera in there and one dowel but not much else for now.

Yeah. I did a little more looking around and think they should be ok.

Hopefully she eats soon.

I'm sure basking for females is a bit lower than males due to the egg laying and the appetite lowering thing so they don't lay as many eggs (they live longer with less eggs)

sort of- they lay what are commonly referred to as slugs. Sometimes a few will come along with babies when they are born. They are yellow gobs - infertile eggs. But I have no idea if they pass slugs without being bred- I never kept jacksons females without breeding them.

I don't think the veiled cool concept probably applies to jacksons, but I could be wrong. Probably the previous poster misunderstood and thought you had a veiled.

So that's what people mean when they say slugs, I thought their girl had eaten slugs and I was so confused.

Jacksons will eat slugs too- but not the ones they give birth to, the bugs!
But slugs often carry flukes so probably not a good idea to feed.
