I am sorry to hear that he passed away. I seriously doubt that moving him several times would kill him in that short of time. If you do get another one be sure to sanitize everything that he came in contact with before another chameleon goes around it.
I don't think I'd blame you, you really don't know how well or not he was taken care of before you got him. A normal, healthy veiled should be able to handle a stressful day without toppling over. Otherwise no one would be able to take their chameleons to reptile shows for the weekend, sell them, have them go home with new owners without all of them dying.
Whatever you choose to do next, I'd look into ordering from one of the forum sponsors. They have great reputations and take great care of their animals, so they guarantee that you'll get a happy, healthy guy.
Ive been looking at flchams they have some nice colorful baby veiled for 100. im thinking about getting one of them or a jacksons off their. however there is a guy that lives near me that has 2 baby veiled for 25 a piece. he breeds chams but not veiled he purchased a pregnant female.
