Itchy eye

New Member
So my chameleon has his left eye closed for about 2 weeks now. Not swollen or cloudy just closed. He opens it sometimes and I can see it looks perfect. But since yesterday it seems extremely itchy. When I held him to put him outside he started itching it in my hand so he must be extremely uncomfortable.

Is there ever any swelling? Irritants can be physical (particle, scratch/damage, or growth), biological (germ, parasite), chemical (allergy, other). Am I forgetting anything? The structure of a chameleon eye makes it difficult to see what's going on under all that lid. Misting & fogging should be enough to help him/her (are there heel spurs?) wash away some irritants.

I'm not sure what a reasonable time is before having it looked at by a herp vet.
