Possibly shed but I'm thinking more towards remnants of a sperm plug.

That’s what I was thinking too, but it looked like yesterday. He was trying to push something out and nothing was coming out.

Nah, he should scrape it off on a branch. If it stayed too long you could gently swipe it with a moistened q tip to assist. Do not pull it though.
