i know hes a chameleon and theyre expert climbers and everything but he already fell once from the top of a 2 foot cage.

If hes going under and lamp and turning black then he is trying to get warm. I wouldnt introduce a basking light into a baby cage. As for falling, the gallery is filled with side and upside down chams sleeping on the screen. Also the babies defence mech is to fall. With carpet chams they will "let loose" if they think you can see them, and fall to the bottom of the cage and scurry away.

What are your temps/breed/age of cham? You might be able to solve your problem just by increasing cage heat alittle. I know mine will wonder to warm objects like alarmclocks/stereos/dvrs if i keep the room at 75 or below during the day.

He is a Panther Cham.. 6 weeks old.. the temperature in there is 75.. he does have a basking light and that area is at 85.. i think he just does this when i mist his cage because he doesnt like the water.. but i dont know if its bad for him to be so close to the uvb light since i have been told by other users that a 10.0 can blind him if its too close..

He should have a 5.0 UVB light, 10.0 is too much, it's typically for desert creatures I think, such as bearded dragons and some types of geckos.

If he is doing that after you mist him he is probably hoping to warm up quickly. I would add more branches or vines at varying distances from the light, so he can choose the temperature gradient that best suits him. Don't be afraid to move the basking spot up a little higher.

I personally think your lighting is fine. The Reptiglo brand is a little weaker than the Reptisun equivalent, so the Reptiglo 10.0 has more in common with the Reptisun 5.0 as far as output, especially through screen. Even so, the Reptisun 10.0 outputs about as much UVB as your chameleon would be exposed to outside in the early morning, say around 8-9am. Which is not bad or excessive, since panthers and veileds happily bask in full sun at noon. So in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with your lighting. I would just add more vines and perches and see how he does from there.
