My girlfriend got a chameleon about a month or two ago and it was sold as a veiled chameleon, but lookin at some photos of veileds bout the same age on internet the the crest thing on the head seems to be bigger than the one my girlfriends chameleon has, i would say its no more than a year old maximum but is it a veiled chameleon or a different type?

Yes it is a veiled. You can tell by the large crown on the top of the head. I think the males have a larger crown than the females.

Yep you have a veiled. Not good at telling sex. Can you check it's back feet and if it has a spur its a boy. Can you post pics of base of tail and back feet?:)

that is a male veiled chameleon.

but I think he has MBD. the front arm seems to have an 'extra' joint, which implies that the arm has been broken.

whoever your girlfriend got him from, did not know how to care for him properly.

i would suggest a vet visit, and x rays, to determine the extent of the damage, and for potential medications to help the calcium levels.

I agree that he looks to have mbd. MBD is metabolic bone disease which causes the bones to become brittle, curve and even break. That is probably why his casque is so stunted also. His front legs do not look right.

it's def. a male veiled and def. something not right. it is hard to tell if that's MBD or a bad camera angle, but also, since his crest seems to be leaning back, I'd wager something's wrong. I'd think that someone wasn't taking good care of him and tried to pawn him off on your girl so they could wipe their hands clean. I've only dealt with one MBD case and she didn't live very long, unfortunately, so you might want to talk to some other owners who have dealt with it to see if they could give you a good supplementation schedule. Def. get him to a vet to get checked out, and bring a fecal so he could be checked for parasites.

His crest looks like a females:(

That is so sad.. The front arm looks pretty bad. has anybody noticed that his eye seems to be bulging out??
I noticed this too...Also his casque looks extremely inflated/small for a veiled. His front arms looks like a noodles, etc.

I'd say 100% vet visit no questions asked. I'm almost positive he has MBD.

To the OP-

Take a look at this blog written by a herp vet:

Please update us on his condition and if you decide on taking him to the vet.

And welcome to the forums! Glad you found us, you're already on a great start on getting help with your cham :)
