Okay so my little guy is about 5 months old now and i he seems still so small to me. He did shed about 2 weeks ago so i know he is growing. He is a male panther chameleon and 5 months old. he was very malnourished when i first got him. he has definitely put on weight since i got him. (see in attached photos). before his shed he was eating 2 small crickets a day, now he only eats one medium cricket every other day. i have caught him sleeping and laying his head down, but it’s not consistent. normal poop, have not change anything with his cage or husbandry. any advice advice??

Something is very wrong. A cham of this age should eat 10-15 crickets a day. 1 cricket per day is extremely low.

I see that you had requested a husbandry review and had gotten some replies but i don’t see that we actually did review your husbandry. Was that done? Has anything changed since then?
So yes, someone messaged me and I had that all worked out. But some things have changed so I will re-post an updated one :)

  • Your Chameleon - Zeus, 5 month old male Panther chameleon
  • Handling - I don't handle him.
  • Feeding - I put 5 medium sized crickets in every other day, he is only eating about 1 every other day.
  • Supplements - repashy calcium with d3, reptivite. no d3 every day, d3 every other week, multivitamin alternating every other week
  • Watering - Misting and dripper. mist for 3 mins three times a day and drip 24 hours a day
  • Fecal Description - About every day, watery with white and brown
  • History - Came from a chameleon breeder, he has breed chameleons and other repitles for 6 years.
Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - 18x18x36 in
  • Lighting - Heat light 50 watt ( I tried a 100 but seemed to get too hot) UVB light is a 10.0 on at 8am, off at 8pm
  • Temperature - will be 80 Basking and down to 70 ambient
  • Humidity - hydrometer used to measure, will be 45-50 during the day and 50-60 at night
  • Plants - I have one main natural pant that goes top to bottom of the cage, one vine, and another cat fern. Fake vine throughout the entire cage
  • Placement - On top of a night stand, not close to windows but can get natural sunlight, about 2 feet off the ground, Close to the door but not where I walk in he can see me
  • Location - Salt lake UT

forgot to mention gut loading crickets with cricket feed, sweet potatoes, carrots, lettuce and apples
I'm not sure the lettuce & apples are doing much good; they typically have little―if any―nutritional value. The sweet taters & carrots should provide enough water.

@zeuszooter I have a few additional questions below.

  • Your Chameleon - Zeus, 5 month old male Panther chameleon He looks quite small for a 5 month old.
  • Handling - I don't handle him.
  • Feeding - I put 5 medium sized crickets in every other day, he is only eating about 1 every other day. Are you sure that these are not too large for him? He should be eating like 12 every single day at this age. How are you feeding him? Cup feeding or free feeding?
  • Supplements - repashy calcium with d3, reptivite. no d3 every day, d3 every other week, multivitamin alternating every other week Can you please post a picture of all of your supplements? It looks like you have duplicates. He should be getting Calcium without D3 every feeding except 2 times a month when he gets calcium with D3 and 2 times a month when he gets a multivitamin. These two get rotated week to week.
  • Watering - Misting and dripper. mist for 3 mins three times a day and drip 24 hours a day
  • Fecal Description - About every day, watery with white and brown. I strongly advise getting a Fecal done asap to rule out parasites.
  • History - Came from a chameleon breeder, he has breed chameleons and other repitles for 6 years.
Cage Info:

  • Cage Type - 18x18x36 in fine for now but will need to be a 2x2x4 in the next few months.
  • Lighting - Heat light 50 watt ( I tried a 100 but seemed to get too hot) UVB light is a 10.0 on at 8am, off at 8pm. Are you using a T8 or T5 linear fixture? Looks like he can get quite close to it. With it being a 10.0 bulb this may be too much UVB for him.
