Is smoke an issue?

I just set something on fire in the microwave, don't ask me how, I don't know.
It's an older microwave, I think I am going to buy a new one because this has happened before. (Oh, and suggest some non-burning microwaves to me... LOL!)

Could the smoke have any effects on the reptiles of the house, or will they be fine? I am airing the house out as I type and I've closed off all the rooms that have reptiles in them so no more smoke gets in (still have windows open). Mom's not home, I already called her, but her phone died halfway through her telling me what to do. :( I swear, every window and door is open in the house right now and the smoke just will not go away. The swamp cooler's fan is running in overtime! Pee-yew!

If need be I can move every single reptile out of the house until it is clear, but I'm sure it's not necessary.

So, anyone have any suggestions, comments, concerns?

D'oh!

I sure that if they aren't already dead they should be just fine as long as you air it out good. But I expect that smoke can't be good so just make sure that they are not exposed for to long.

Now that I think about it, people don't CO2 reptiles for a reason, *shrugs*. Swamp cooler has not gone off and I left for 10 minutes to get the mail and throw out trash, came back and I can still smell it. :\

Opening the doors and windows to the house was the right move. You can dampen a bath towel and put that at the base of the door to the chameleon area, to keep more smoke from travelling into that area. Obviously keep the windows open in that area.
If you have a large fan, blow it out the front or back door.
If you have an attic, open the access hatch so that some of the warm air will rise up there and carry the smoke with it. (I am assuming your atic is cooler right now if its winter there). Open the chimney flu, if you have one.

No attics or chimneys! I only have 2 fans but they have been going non-stop. Unfortunately, there is nothing up high that I can open to let the smoke out, it will only be going out the doors and windows for now.

Thank you Sandra!

I looked at New Posts, see you've replied in the thread, told myself "this post is going to have something about underwear in it, I'd bet."
I still haven't stopped laughing.

Hey now, I live in Arizona, all I have to do is walk outside!

I think found the culprit in the microwave, looks like a (now) small piece of burned styrofoam. I honestly have no idea how it got there, it was under the glass plate.

Well thats better than scorched undies! :D
I did cook some styrofoam once, when our first microwave was new, just forgot to check to packaging inside. It was meant to cushion the plate I think.
My wife cooked a heatbag once, the kind with wheat kernels or whatever inside, boy did it stink, made us nauseous for days, just couldnt rid the smell, worse it was impregnated with lavender oil or some such. Actually caught fire!
:)

Very nice! Mom finally got home and I asked her how styrofoam could have gotten in the microwave,
she replied something along the lines of "JENNA BROOKE STEPHENSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (My niece's name who is now here with us.) Well, that explains a lot! :D

Lavender oil is a lot better than this burning feeling in my nose from *sniffs* burnt bread? It smells like burnt bread now. Ewww..

Are you sure she shouldn't have said..."Sabrin...nnnaaaaa!"

Not sure if you'll get that one, might've been before your time. :D

Um.........Your maybe thinking 'bewitched' or 'I dream of Genie' ?
Thats col Klink from "Hogan's Heros' :)

Oh heck, that picture didn't even show up when I replied first. My parents watched that when I was little, probably reruns, but I still wouldn't have gotten that.

People always called me Sabrina the Teenage Witch. :p
