Is he healthy?

Here are a couple of pictures of our 10 week (supposedly) male veiled, Floyd. Does he appear to be healthy? And also, what is the black growth on his front left leg? It has been there since we purchased him. Any thoughts? Thanks.

He looks pretty good as far as the picture shows. Are you sure the black growth is not a stuck-on poop?

is deffinatly a male and yeah what is that black spot on him but other than that hes looks great

If that black spot doesn't brush off of him, I would first post this in the health thread, and make an appt. with a vet that specializes in reptiles.

I think he looks charming. The black spot could be something stuck. Observe if he's having difficulty walking with that arm.
Best of luck to you!

What brand/make of camera if you don't mind me asking?

He has one of these:

A male indeed.

Hopefully the spot comes off next time he "skins" (don't know the english word) It will be anytime soon.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. The black thing has been on him since we purchased him, ~7 weeks ago. He has shed and it seems to be unaffected. It's hard, like bone. Looks like a little spur sticking out. It doesn't seem to impair him in any way. He moves fine, eats fine, drinks fine, etc.

Yeah the camera is my girlfriends' little digi point and shoot, the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z850. I found that the pet setting with or without flash seems to work the best, with macro focus.

Thanks again.

Hey,
My little veiled had the same thing, although it was on his belly. Look in my gallery, when popeye was 1 week old, you can see it just in front of his back leg!
I just removed it as it was something stuck, atleast that's what I thought. It was hard, rock like, but once removed it was fine. Definately looks the same, I only hope for your sake it is just something stuck.
Good Luck..
Scott.

He looks good for a young male :) The vet will take that thing off and tell you what it is. It looks like a skin "tag". I have a cat that had one. The vet twisted it off and had it tested. It was benign. What makes them black is dried blood. At one point the tag was more fleshy like normal skin. Then it gets "injured" somehow and bleeds inside. The blood dries and turns dark black. Then the whole thing gets dried until it is hard. You would think they would then just fall off right away, but they don't. Anyway, that's what it looks like to me. Your vet will certainly figure it out for sure. Let us all know when you find out. Then we can learn something too :)
