The other day I was trying to put my veiled back in his cage he would hiss at me. When he hisses should I back off or should I not react to show him im the boss.

My female veiled hisses every time I reach into the enclosure, and bites me when I reach near her. I try not to antagonize her and I am no expert but I assume the hissing is a stress behavior and I would think backing off would be the key.

Backing off simply encourages them to hiss more. It means they don't want you to touch them, so they hiss. You back away, giving them the thought that hissing = you go away.

If they hiss or try and bite, leave your hand in front of them, but don't move it. Keep it there for a while, out of their reach, so they know hissing won't really work.

thanks I was thinking that not backing off was best. I know with my beardies when you are taming them you put a piece of food in their mouth when they show aggression

Once my chameleon bit me on accident when trying to get a piece of fruit.

It hurts a little bit. It's like closing a plastic tupperware lid onto your hand slightly hard.
