Hello! New to the forum, here. We're looking to purchase a flap-necked chameleon but are finding few places that carry them and those that do seem to have them out of stock. Can anyone recommend a good breeder or dealer that might have some available? Thank you!
those guys are hard to find i had some with eggs but none of them made it try lllreptiles but most of theirs are wc. what makes you want them they are cool and great little chams best of luck on your search!!!!
My husband's had his heart set on one for years - he likes the colors, size, look. This will actually be our first chameleon. My husband's done a lot of research and has the cage and accessories all set up. All we're missing is the cham. Reptile City has some, but I'm a bit skeptical as I've read some not-so-great reviews. I'm also leery about them being WC as opposed to CB. Big Apple Herp and FL Chams sell CB flap-necked, but are currently out of stock and not sure when they'll have more. No prior experience with WCs, but definitely committed.
If I were you the first step would be to post your set up, pics and description, get it running, check RH and temps for a few weeks, let some of the experts here look at it and make sure it is perfect.
Captive breds will become available. Keep checking fauna classifieds, kingsnake, e-mail the sponsors here (LLL and FLChams are the two that come to mind that might carry this species.) Do not discuss here who is good and who isn't, also do not discuss prices. It is frowned on as it inevitably starts a fight.
The single most important attribute to a chameleon keeper is patience and an ability to act fast as soon as something happens!
It is likely you will wind up with a wild caught. If that is the case you will need to have money set aside for veterinary care and be aware the quality of care is much more important! I wouldn't recommend wild caught but know how it is to really want a species and that is all you can find!
Be sure to read the caresheet in the resources section here and read all the associated material and ask tons of questions for anything not understood. There are a lot of very experienced helpful keepers here who want nothing more than for you to succeed as a new keeper.
Thanks for the advice. I actually sent emails to/left messages with FL Chams, LLL and several others last week. We'll see what comes of it. I'll try to post pics of the set-up once everything's in place. I agree with your suggestion of running it for a couple weeks to make sure everything's stable before we introduce a chameleon. Glad to have found this forum. Our family's excited about the eventual new addition and will surely be in need of all the support/advice we can get!
