I'm nesting...

You are getting a chameleon!! Just tell him that you have tons of us who are your friends and you need your own cham to share. After all he does WANT you to be happy in your new country. Or I can just chat with him:D:D

Oh Laurie you are so sweet!

I've spent $100 on the cage, $100 on the mister, so all I need other than that is greenery. I have a few fake vines etc, and can easily get some live plants locally once the cage turns up and I have a better idea of the size. I already have all the lights and bulbs I could ever need, anything I'm forgetting? Planning on just bodging a dripper from a juice bottle. Oh need to get a bucket for the Mist King, I think.

He just worries about everything, and he really takes it badly when we lose an animal, and I think he's worried about two of our gecko eggs hatching and four more on the way. I also haven't broached the subject of finding homes for the babies, he's not good at letting animals go, but I really don't want to keep them, not because I can't take adequate care of them, but just because that really does add unnecessary expense if we have to buy and decorate 4 new gecko-suitable vivs.

It's just tough to explain why he should indulge my selfish desire to add a chameleon to our already crazy menagerie!

Just realised I'm going to need something to put the enclosure on, and a large enough tray for storage... better start rummaging through the internet for something suitable...

Counting down now! The enclosure should be here this week, the mister should have been here already, bought a plant (hanging sedum) and will start shopping for tall plants tomorrow.

I have calcium with and without D3, do I need additional supplements or are the rest just backups for gutloading?

Yay!

Dunno on the supplements I cheat and use repashy calcium plus. I have enuff going on so on less thing to worry about rotating calcium's vitamins etc... :)

Hit craigslist there's always some coffee or end table on there.

Ooh I LOVE this plan!

I was going to suggest craigslist too :) Make sure anything you get is cleaned well before entering the house though.

A multivitamin is recommended to help fill any gaps that your gutloading misses. Ideally, your gutloading should be so good you dont need it, but obviously that is a very difficult task. I would just get one for good measure. I also like minerall for good measure.

I have an order on the way from Pangea with the multivits the supplier recommended, and the Repashy calcium plus, which adds to the calcium with/without vit D that I already use for my other guys. (free shipping if you use the code 'freeship' on orders over $30).

I'm off to Home Depot as soon as the enclosure arrives, should be any minute now according to the courier tracking I'm refreshing every 3 minutes. Here's my shopping list:

Shefflera
Pothos
Painters bucket with lid for the Mist King bulkhead
9/16" spade drill bit to make a hole in the bucket for the Mist King gubbins
A tray or similar to catch and drain water
Digital thermometer/hygrometer and probe

Figured these are good starter plants. I'm a bit worried about setting up the Mist King, I'm good at DIY and am usually the one to fix the plumbing and electrics in the house, as well as any animal issues, but Hubbles is the one who does anything to do with drills. I'm going to give it a go though.

Anything else I should get at Home Depot?

Save your $$ don't waste money on digital therm/hygrometers.... just look at my blog on calibrating a hygrometer. Buy a cheap dial combo from a pet store for 10.00 and calibrate it. It will be more accurate and consistent than a digital. Trust me, my father in law is big into high dollar cigars and he is one who showed me the calibration trick and how no 2 hygrometers will read the same in most cases until calibrated. Most digital hygrometers can not be calibrated btw.

Also get a small thing of silicone to put around your bulkhead, just in case. You never know when that small rubber band seal will leak if over tightened etc...

Also it was my understanding you didn't need to vitamin supplement if on the repshay calcium plus. Its all in one daily 1 thing does it all.

Wow, thank you! The breeder uses a varied supplementation schedule, all of it sparingly, figured I'd keep the Repashy as a backup!

My enclosure arrived today! So excited. Bloody PITA to put together, but done! What do you think of my setup so far? Considering these two as permanent fixtures.

Being told no one children happened to me also. After my daughter then 29 foster kids, hubby got testy about the whole thing.

Trillian, I only have the one adult male for trade but he is very handy about the house. If your hubbles is ok him, I will put my husband in a box.

How is this looking? There is one support bar in the middle, so both hanging plants are on there at the moment. Might take out the succulent at the front and just leave the schefflera and pothos for now.

Used a plastic floor runner in the bottom because I couldn't find a 23x23 tray.

Found the table base on Craigslist and it's perfect, once Hubbles tacks on a basic frame. It was $7 and when folded looks just like a Klingon bat'leth!

I'm really struggling with the Mist King, drilled the hole and got what I hope is the bulkhead nozzle through, tightened and caulked with silicone gel (thank you for that tip!) but I have no idea how to put the rest of the bits together. Any help?!

Looking good. Get some fishing line and hang the pothos in the rear corner and place branches up to it. Mine likes to crawl into it and chill out.

5gal bucket to pump
pump to the fitting at top of enclosure

I would think about where you want the nozzle to be at in the enclosure. I mounted mine in the front corner so it would spray out into the other areas of the cage, and plan on putting another nozzle in the opposite rear corner.. However I ended up running more line from the corner to the center of the enclosure and now have the nozzle pointing straight down in the center, until I pickup another nozzle add on.

I find that 1 nozzle only covers about 50-60% of a 2x2x4 enclosure, so make sure you put it where yo want it wet. In the center it does not mist out of the enclosure in my setup.

HEADS UP... really push hard on the line going from the pump to the nozzle. It will catch on the o-ring and you will think its in but keep pushing and it will click again and then its locked in. Otherwise it will leak on your lovely floors.

Oh Wykd, you are too good to me! So bucket-pump-nozzle? I'm worried about getting the walls wet, the enclosure is in a corner. Thinking of setting the nozzle on the opposite corner, so glad it won't spray too far! I'll probably mist manually too, at least to start with.

Thank you for the plant advice too!
