I'm nesting...

Just bought a Mist King, and hoping to get a good deal on a tall artificial ficus tree from Craigslist. I have both types of lights and fittings. I'm gutted that the largest size of cage from DIY cages is out of stock for another few weeks, that would have been perfect. So I'm keeping an eye out to find a good deal on a screen enclosure. My silkworms are preparing to spin, and I'm hoping we'll get some eggs out of them, I have 100 baby dubias and 15 adults (bloody hell those things are huge) so hopefully my colony will start progressing soon. I think other feeders I will just order as needed, these seemed like the most straightforward to breed.

Oh and eventually I'll probably get a chameleon to add the final touch to my indoor forest. Probably a baby panther girl, but I'm still very much undecided...

Is this your first cham? If so I would go with an older veiled (4-12 months), male. They are the hardiest, and in my opinion have the coolest physical features  I got my guy at 1 year. Babies are harder to take care of... they require a LOT of food and will outgrow their cage fast (within about 5-6 months). But if you know what you're doing panthers are great!... I still love my Yoshi though

Technically it's not my first chameleon but it's my first properly thought-out purchase of a healthy CB/CH chameleon, rather than a misguided rescue of a sickly WC. Going to get the biggest tank straight off, probably 24x24x48, assuming I do get a panther. I don't know what I'm doing, but I have a great support system and I'm good at following instructions!

Get a panther , if that's what you ultimately want!:D

You seem to be willing to learn and apply, that's 1/2 the battle.

If it helps! My 4 year old has now taken on ALL responsibilities for "Strawberry" her 6 month old female. She feeds and mist her, gets gloves and cleans her cage weekly. One less Cham for me to take care of! lol:D

The LLL cages are pretty cheap! If you have a reptile show near you soon, sometimes you can work out a great deal on the cages (and get a chameleon too!)

Jon that's fantastic! I was keeping lizards when I was that little and it helped me learn a lot about responsibility. :) I didn't get a chameleon until I was 7, but still. It's a great lesson for life.

I saw those pennplex not a bad price. I just keep my eye on amazon. They have the xl reptibreeze for about 88 at the moment.

Cool on the kid's involvment.

My daughter just turned 5 and she enjoys coming down to look at them. She is 100% girlie though, so no help yet. But she did make progress last night she asked if she could hold the female. She was very gentle and looked up at me while holding her... "what now?" lol

I told her they are like cat's in that they come and go as they please so we just let them call the shots. :)

Sure! If you don't mind me having another wife, 2 kids, a bunch of Chams,Geckos and Roaches!:D

Brilliant, I'll inform my husband and children this evening. I'll bring 5 geckos, a dragon, a python and more roaches. Ooh a big reptile commune... integrated babysitters and holiday care! I think we're on to something...

I don't know what I want! That's the problem! But I think panther seems a better fit for us.

I must get my two more involved. Trouble is our lizards are all too fast! And the geckos don't get up until the girls are in bed. My two are desperate to give the python live food, but I'm fairly sure I couldn't manage that! Just cried over the packet of frozen rat babies who just arrived!

There's a show in White Plains in July, but it's the same one I got my half-dead cristatus from, and I'd be worried about trusting the vendors there.

I'm so excited about doing it all properly this time!

I always forget about Amazon for stuff like that, thank you for the reminder! I'm worried about the longevity of the Reptibreeze, but they seem handy for travel and outdoor time.

Well you're looking for a CB animal this time so it should be easier.

My only reptibreeze has been well for a good 3 years now. I just don't mist through the screen.

reptibreeze is the big aluminum screen version same as the pennplex but the front door is screen not acrylic... i think your talking about a repterium?

I'll be at that show, so i can guide you if needed.:)

I saw a few good ones, but i also saw some to watch out for at teh last show.

It was so depressing in November! Not sure Hubbles would be happy to go again, he's so much more soft-hearted than me.

I got the Penn Plax! I'm so pleased, thank you for the heads up! Had family staying so haven't been able to keep up with the board as much as usual. Sent them all into Manhattan today so got a day to catch up a bit!

So, 24x24x48 screen cage with perspex door on it's way, and the basic Mist King system, which I;ve discovered needs me to modify a bucket, which could get interesting.

An additional complication is a curveball comment from Hubbles this morning who said something to the effect that he's glad we have a snake rather than a chameleon. I didn't realise it was an either/or decision... I've been saving up for over a month to make sure I could afford the essentials for the chameleon, plus my mum gave me enough cash (to cheer me up, she's convinced money buys happiness!) to cover what I've bought already.

So I'm stuck, and worried about talking to him about it! But I need to...

Least it's Friday and I can give him beer first. And it's pretty much a done deal, just need the chameleon, and I have my eye on a very promising female panther.
