if not free roaming a Mellers... what size cage?

Title says it. I do realize there are a thousand variables that could go with that. Generally speaking however for a well set up screen vivarium with auto mister.... Whats your best guess?

If you don't plan to make your own, I would put two 24x24x48 cages together. But you need to know I have never owned a mellers.

It would depend a lot on the animal too. Mine just hangs out in his ficus trees and walks over to the window to bask (it's open for him.) He also has a section where the water mists and he goes over there to drink. I imagine others might be more prone to roaming, so they might need a bigger cage than that. Bigger screen is better too so they dont rip out any nails and if they nose rub it's not as bad.

When "caged" I keep an adult Melleri in a 8ft high 4ft wide 4ft deep enclosure I built. I use pvc pipe for the frame and hardware cloth. You can get the basic idea from www.melleridiscovery.com.

They do use every bit of the cage. I couldn't imagine any of my adults in a smaller cage though I know people have and do succesfully.

I'm wondering if an iguana enclosure would be large enough? I know there are some people here that are more familiar with them. Perhaps something worth looking into.

My homes for my adult melleri aren't as large a Jessica's but still pretty big, 7x5x2.5 and 4x4x2. I have juvies in 4x2x2s that will need larger homes later this year. Cheers!

I would say get a large a cage as you can. They like A LOT of space. If you can free range at all that would be great.

I was and still am in the process of converting a 6' high by 4' wide by 18" deep wardrobe into a cage. I was considering a Mellers to fill it but cant free range as I dont trust my dogs entirely. I will think of something else, probably an ambilobe or sambava.
