Hey guys i just got this light today. It is an 18 inch, 15 watt desert uvb T8 fluorescent bulb. Is this not bright enough for him and if not what kind should i get. I can tell he isnt getting enough light because he goes right up to it like in the pic and just chills there for awhile. He also is a lot darker than usual.

I have a 20 watt cfl uvb bulb that i first got and that seemed to work good so i just added that to the cage. So right now i have the two uvb lights and one heat light. What do you guys think. Thanks

To be honest, I don't think he/she is gonna get sick from adding more UVB lighting, I am saying that because I bring my Female veiled outside now everyday and she seems to have more energy than when I had her regular UVB bulb and lamp on her rather than taking her outside. That is just my opinion on the matter, there are more experienced people on here that I'm sure have an opinion, just looking to help :)

And fyi you should have something similar to the repti-glow 5.0 rather than the desert bulb, significant difference in the bulbs.

He doesn't look sick.

I would suggest getting higher branches for your chameleon so he can bask closer to the light. Neither of those bulbs are strong enough to burn him or anything.

My chameleons always like to get as high as possible and sometimes hanging upsidedown or on the sides is the way they do it. You can stop that behavior by putting the branches or trees to nearly the top so they don't feel the need to hang upsidedown or on the sides.

He's probably enjoying the fresh new UVB rays! Whenever I change out my lights all my chams sit in them a lot more than usual, and darker color means he's basking to absorb more rays and heat. He knows what he needs so he's trying to get more of it. You might try adding more branches and plants so he can get closer to the the light for better basking without havign to sit on the bars. Remember UVB bulbs have to be changed every 6 months.

the desert series bulb is an incorrect bulb to use. It should be the tropical series bulb. I would not be using two different uvbs in that size cage. One is plenty. You should be using one 5.0 tube light. She needs to be able to get out from the uvb at the top of the cage.

Welcome to the forums. I have a female veiled that turned 7 months old today. I recommend the Reptisun 5.0 tube bulb for UVB. Maybe you can exchange the one you bought. I have a couple of blogs attached for you below. The first is for general care and the other is about females and egg laying and the laying bin. At 4 to 5 months old she needs a laying bin in her enclosure to use when she's ready to lay. Females lay eggs without a male even being around. I also have a video by another of our members here about making a laying bin.

Thank you for your reply. I just got a reptisun 5.0 uvb bulb today so I think he will be happy with that.

I sure hope so cuz i really like him and he is a male so he most likely will live a long time if i take care of him good enough. How long do males usually live?

Thanks again Carol, youve been a great help to me on these forums, im glad i signed up cuz all you guys have helped me a lot. I just got the 5.0 bulb today for him. Thanks again.

Thanks for the welcome. I have a male so i wont have to be worrying about eggs or anything like that. Yep the reptisun is the one i got, i heard great things about it.
I have a question, where on this site is a page where i can see the threads i am subscribed to. When i click usercp it says i have no subscribed threads to display but i have about 6 threads that i started.
