I think my baby veiled has a torn eyelid. Her eye looks exposed. PLEASE HELP

update

We go to the vet on Thursday and it was like pulling teeth to get them to pay for it. The hard part about it is thatI work as a dog groomer for petco where i got her so they think they can treat me differently than a regular customer. Oh well, i got them to help so that's all i care about. Also, they were scaring me and saying she may need to be put down. If that happens I'll be devastated, not to mention my children. With that in mind this morning i got her out to put medicine on her eye and i thought I'd try one more time to feed her so I put get on my hand with about 6 mini mealworms and after a few minutes of us staring at her she ate all 6 with no trouble at all! I think she has a better chance of the vet helping her instead of putting her down now.

glad to here you have got an appoiintment with the vet and that they are paying for it! sometimes you have to push them to do what they are supposed to do and this was one of those times :) Olimpia said that if nothing else could be done, her eye could be amputated and she could live a normal and fulfilling life, so if they are pushing to have her put down i would personally want to see another vets opinion. they may push for that to spend less money on her as horrible as it sounds :(
its great that she finally ate!!! continue offering her food while you wait for the vet visit to come around, if she will eat, thats awesome :) keep us updated on your little girl and im so glad to hear that things are starting to look up a little bit!!!

Yea, I don't agree that her only option is to be put down. One of our members has a 5 year old male with only one eye, who has done excellently with hand/cup feeding. So there's definitely hope if you and your vet are willing to try. Keep offering her food, because her eating is an excellent sign. And she'll need her strength if she's put on any medicines, since some of them will cause temporary anorexia.

I have nothing to add but my best wishes for her recovery and admiration for your kindness to this little girl. Good luck, and whatever happens thank you for giving her a fighting chance.

Eric

Just because she may have an eye problem does not mean her life needs to be cut short!! I have a 5 year old male veiled who has eye problems and has had them from a very young age. He needs a teeny bit of specialized care every day and I am required to hand feed him but in all honesty he's much lower maintenance than my other two 'healthy' chams! I just wanted to chime in on this in case you are made to feel bad about 'keeping her alive' and the 'low' quality of life she may lead. Its NOT TRUE and it is entirely possible for her to thrive with eye problems, it just matters how you deal with it.

Good luck and I hope to hear that she's overcoming her eye problems and growing (with love!) under your care and attention. :D

exactly how Olimpia and i feel :) this corporation still thinks they can decide the outcome of this little cham but she has found her savior and i think she is going to survive this and live a long, loved, and healthy life with you :)

Wow everyone! I'm overwhelmed with how supportive everyone is! Thank you, everyone, who have given me advice and encouragement. I feel a little stronger in my battle to save baby Skull & Crossbones.. (name courtesy of my 9year old son) baby C.B. Is one lucky girl to have so many people in her corner! Thank you all once again

Everyone is here to support you and your little girl :) my heart goes out to you both and i cant wait to hear what happens at the vet visit, im praying for the best! its a great sign that she is eating so im feeling good about it :D

vet visit update

We took her to the vet yesterday and he immediately asked "They actually sold her to you?!" She apparently wasn't supposed to be sold at all per his request in January because her future looked grim. He has seen her twice already and said that her eye is much worse than before and it looked as though someone may have accidentally ripped her eyelid off and she us holding it in because she is in pain. He also stated how shocked he was to even see her alive for this long but because of her weight drop since her last visit he said she was in so much pain that she was slowly starving herself and putting her down may be a humane option in the future. I mentioned that she ate for me once but she hadn't had any more than onemini meal worm a day since she ate the 6 out of my hand on Tuesday which added to his fear of starvation. At this point he said he is only 10% hopeful she will recover but with her being in pain and nothing more can be done its only a matter of prayer. He is trying to help me find a rescue for her that had more knowledge of helping sick chameleons and is able to give her the care she deserves. He is also helping us locate a local reputable breeder to get us a baby male to start off with. (males are easier to take care of and have longer lifespan supposedly). I'm crushed.

Glad you got her to the vet and so sorry that you've had such an awful experience.
I'm surprised the vet did not suggest removing the eye, at the very least to alleviate the pain. Perhaps there were reasons.
That shop owner should be ashamed---in addition to the full refund you should get.
