Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled chameleon, female, baby. I've has her for 3 days.
Handling - every day- atleast 3 times a day to give her eye ointment
Feeding - gut loaded crickets and mini meal worms but she wont touch anything.
Supplements - retptical with D3 and herptivite but she wont eat anything.
Watering - I have a constant water drip and I aslo spray her dowm with warm water 3-4 times a day? She IS drinking
Fecal Description - She has a yellow and brown-ish turd that she pooed on the side of the tank but thats been the only one.
History - I got her fromt the pet store and she was 50% off because she was sick. They took her to the vet for her eye and the vet said that it looked like she had a hard shed and that shed was stuck over/in her eye and to put ointment on it 3x a day and increase her humididty to 80% until the shed is soft enough to peel off with tweasers (gently) but after that she should be just fine.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - I have a glass and screen cage that is 24x 24 or something like that. it has a screen fron and a screen top but hte rest is glass.
Lighting - from 9 til 9pm i have a blue 60w basking bulb and a zilla tropical coiled 5.0 uvb bulb.
Temperature - The cage floor is around 70 degrees and the cage top is close to 75 to 80 degrees. at night the temp is around 65. I have a thermometer and a humidity gauge in there with her.
Humidity - the humididty is close to 80% but sometimes drops to around 65%. I mist her constantly and have a drip system constsntly going.
Plants - only fake
Placement - in the sunroom right off the livingroom in front of a double window. the height is about chest high.
Location - I live in Missouri.

Current Problem - The problem is that she was seen by the vet January 1st 2013 and it is now feb 25th 2013 and there is no improvement after putting the ointment on 3 times a day with increased humidity levels. I thought it was looking better but now it looks like her eye is completelt exposed with only the top half of an eyelid and it looks pretty flat. She cant blink at all but sometimes tried to move it but it just seems fixed in one spot. She rubs it ocassionally. She wont eat anything and she is so tiny. Im afraid. I've only had her a few days but she has mine and my children's heart. Should I try taking her to the vet again? I cant tell what is shed and what is her mangled looking eyelid. The thing that gets me is that her eye looks flat, not like the other one that is round and perfeclty fine. I dont want to return her to the store but I dont want her to die in my care either.

pictures are needed to be able to assess whats going on!! if you are able to take some pics and post them please do, then we can help you alot more :)

if you can zoom in you can see it better. I tried to get as close as i could but she is so tiny.

you should be able to insert an image by when you are typing a message in this thread, scroll down and there should be a button saying manage attachments, that will let you upload the pics and insert them. let me know if that works and if you can find that button!

I would take her to a reptile vet ASAP. That eye does not look good. 7-8 weeks seems a long time to be giving eye drops x3 a day without a check up. :)

Thats what I was afraid of. Is there anything I can do in the meantime to encourage her to eat something? I've read on here about giving showers, do you think that would benefit her any? I keep her eye moistened constantly so it wont dry or be more uncomfortable than it already is. It hurts my heart to know that she may be in pain. We truly love her.

please keep us updated on what happens with her.. i hope the best for her and you. that poor little girl.. was her eye exposed that way when you brought her home? you could make bug juice and try to feed it to her. gutload crickets and if you have another kind of feeders use those too. then take the cricket legs off and mash them up into a pulp and try to feed it to her, you could put a tiny bit of calcium powder into it too. i wouldnt put her in the shower because she doesnt need any more stress and i personally think more humidity would be bad right now. just keep her humidity where it is and keep the eye moist so that it doesnt get dry.. i understand how you are feeling :( i know you are doing your best and you want to help her all you can, they really steal our hearts away.. i hope you are able to get her to the vet asap,do you think you will be able to?

OH MY GOD.

Get her to the vet NOW

I will! Thank you so much for your help and concern. I did buy her that way and the pet store was only putting the eye cream on her once a day instead of 3x a day like the perscription said. Since I increased her application we were actually able to see her pupil whereas before it was only a white mess. Once I realized that was her eye and not shed I immedialty sought help here. I have a 15 day guarantee of vet coverage through an approved petco vet so i believe i will be utilizing that asap.

Wow the pet store sold her to you like that? :(
Poor baby. Please take care of her.

Update us please. Hopefully you can nurse her.

im glad to hear that you will be able to get to to a vet i do hope that they actually know something about chams though.. a lot of times at those corporations those vets only know cats and dogs so ill be praying for you both!! im so glad you came here for help, this forum is filled with knowledgeable and kind people who are here to support you :) let us know how the vet visit goes!!!

The eye problem could just be a part of an underlying one. If she is not eating she could be quite ill. I don't think putting her in the shower will encourage her to eat, you say she is drinking. You could use bug juice to feed her but she really needs to see a vet ASAP. To make bug juice you will need to squish up some crickets, tiny amount of water, and a tiny amount or plain calcium with out d3. I see you are only using calcium with d3. This should only be used twice a month and plain calcium daily.:)

Yes as d3 every day can cause issues.

Poor little chameleon. Rest assured that if the vet has to amputate the eye (if nothing else can be done) chameleons can and have done very well for a long time afterwards. It may take a little time but they do learn to catch and eat food normally.

At least you are getting to her the vet now. :) Hope she gets better and good luck (in case you didn't read my visitor message).

Please let us know how she does.

Yeah, I was thinking if there is an issue with an animal they should give it to you for free along with any needed medication. You will be nurturing it back to health after all.

Yeah definitely. I wouldn't want to take in a sick chameleon unless I got the medication FREE and the cham for like maybe 10$. I would also scorn them for mistreating their animal (unless they told me they just received her like that. That would also be bad though)
