I have my female Ambanja next to him and I know he can't see her, but he goes to this corner and just stares in that direction. Do you think he can smell her?

chameleons dont give off odor. so no, he doesn't smell her.

I have a male panther you will pace back and forth when the female is close to him. They are In separate cages and no sight but he knows. I don't know how but he does.

Hehe. Knuckles literally dwarfs her in size too! He's 17 tip to tail and she's like 8 or 10 tip to tail

Maybe it is pheromones. Just because they don't smell to us doesn't mean they don't smell to each other. Pheromones actually play a big role in mating in a lot of animals. Including humans.

I don't know if it is true to reptiles, but I don't see why it wouldn't be

Chameleons eyes are very well developed. They also have some special abilities that most other animals don't have. They can alter the polarization of light hitting the retina, they have a sort of zoom lens system, and they can see in different spectrums of light than we can. Its quite possible that that boy can detect some visual or even pheromonal signal that there is a girl in the next cage.

They really are amazing creatures.

Yeah I have a male that does the same thing. He'll spend a lot of time pacing back and forth on the side of the cage where the female is even though he can't see her.
