Hydrometer Question?

Hygrometer Question in my cham cage?

Went out and bought a digital hydro/themometer, the exo terra one. I wanted to know where the best place to put it would be? I assumed near his basking spot since thats where he spends most of his time. I have my old hydrometer, an analog one, near the base of his ficus plant. The digital one reads only 16% while the analog reads 80%. I feel it has to be humid in his cage, but feel that both are way off the mark. Does the digital one need to be connected to some plants, or is it okay for it to be along the back?

Also, Optimus (my Cham's name), seems to only make the popping noise whenever he puffs up really big whenever he feels threatened or if we move him too far from his enclosure. Is this a normal noise for a young (2month) veiled?

Thanks guys.

you should put the therm/humid gage in his basking spot for about 30 mins just to make sure his basking spot his at a good temperature and his baskin spot will usualy always stay at a constant temp, and after you found out the basking temp you should move the temp gauge to the cooler side of the enclosue about 1-2 feet of the bottom to get an average cage temp and the popping noise could be an upper respitory infection if their is alot of saliva in his mouth then you should get a vet to check it out

I have one and it goes way off when it gets wet so just make sure its not in a spot thats giong to drench it. If I were you I would get one for your basking spot also. Alot of times later in the day the basking spot spikes pretty high when its hot out so I have to swap the bulbs to a lower wattage. Not saying it will be the same situation for you but I think its important to moniter the basking at all times

Thanks for the replies! I guess what my question is, is I have a hygro/thermo at the basking spot of the cage and another thermo at the coolest (my temps are doing well and no problems there). The hygro is reading at 18 percent but thats the digital by the basking and then I have another analog hygro that reads much higher. I am really trying to increase the humidity (60-80% -normal)...because it is definitely not high enough. Any suggestions? My cham is 2 months old, just a little guy :).

Just keep a thermometer at the basking and move the other towards the middle of the cage. If you are having a tough time with humidity people on here have put a couple sides covered with a shower curtain and it's supposed to help alot
