Hydration

Hi so I have posted a different forum called new to chameleons and have gotten a lot of help from that but I’m posting a new one solely about hydration. Marge (my veiled chameleon) drinks at night when her mister goes off. I just caught her for the second time drinking while her mister went off but not drips of water but pure mist. I just wanna make sure she is drinking enough. I try to position her dripper to wear it is on a branch over her so she can drink big drops but it doesn’t work. She also did eat a little bit of her monstera and I read that it could be she’s dehydrated which I really really realllly don’t want her to be. Anything helps.

I just listened to bill strands podcast interview about hydration with Petr Necas part 1 and part 2.

It’s pretty long winded but really fascinating interview about how chams stay hydrated. Essentially they don’t drink, they breathe moist air during the foggy nights.

Part 1

Part 2:

Ok. White is perfectly hydrated. The darker the urate, the more dehydrated your chameleon is…all dark orange is desperately dehydrated. It’s ok if one one end there is a bit of yellow or even orange as long as the majority is white or cream colored. The darker black/brown is the poo part. Urate is the urine part.

OK, good because she has a lot of white ones and a lot of black ones but not like liquid black but like normal hard but not concrete hard…idk if that makes sense…
