Hydration / Humidity

Hey, its been 6 days now, since we got our new cham, and iv'e pretty much have a setup where the cage has stable temps and humidity.

Question:
1.If my humidity is stable, is there a need to spray the enclosure, except to spray him for his eye cleaning and watering the plant of course ? he has a dripper already...

without me spraying the cage, humidity is perfect....

That’s a good question, the reasons we mist are for hydration, cleaning eyes, and maintaining humidity. If you have all three covered with what your already doing I’m going to say no. I don’t see a need to drench the rest of the viv. Curious to see what others say...

Stable? Is the humidity constant? It should drop off between misting sessions. The popular concept nowadays is that higher humidity at night through fogging is the way to go, and in many cases this is ideal, but I still think it is beneficial to have a few misting sessions throughout the day. The humidity should be allowed to drop off in most cases to reduce the risks of respiratory issues as well as problems within the enclosure itself. Besides the chameleon, live plants will benefit from these sessions. If your chameleon shows no signs of dehydration over time, you do not need to have very long sessions for drinking purposes, but keep monitoring for changes.

Here are a few blogs of mine that address misting and the debate. I have not completed the fogging part yet as that is a work in progress now that I have an enclosure set up again to test things out, but I should have it done soon. One of my favorite threads lead to the blog...

From researching, some say 40 - 60 or 40 - 70

My target was to get it stable at 55-60 (without misting) and its doing well during the day (I always mist right after the lights come on 10am), and when I come home 7 hours later, its at 55% or 60% and at night its 57%-60% if my memory serves me correctly. House temp is always 76F - 77.F
