so im really trying to get the humidity. other then spraying and a mister *that has yet to arrive in the mail WTH herpmist*.. i picked up a humidifier, to only find that it blows rather strong and only will get the humidity up to about 50% humidity. my concern is will this create a draft that could kill a baby chameleon. i.e a jacksons?

gah frustrated on this damn humidity.. my room on average is only about 39-40%

I'm working on humidity problems as well, but I can give the fairly standard answers to most humidity questions asked around here.

1. Cover a couple sides of this of the enclosure. This didn't work much for me but allot of people suggest it.

2. More live plants. This helped me but not enough.

3. More misting sessions.

As for the humidifier, I won't say anything as I have no clue how severally drafts effect chameleons much less babies.

i kow hi humidity is important, but is this going to cause like an absolute problem? to the point that if he doesn't have higher humidity levels he could have a higher chance of dieing.

Sang, 50% humidity is good enough.

Between 40% - 70% spike is fine.

You can have the humidity turned on but not blowing directly to your chameleon.
Just turned it on in the room where your chameleon is kept.
That plus the misting and live plants should be able to cover your chameleon's humidity requirement.

Beware of too much STAGNANT humidity as well.

you may consider a second layer of screen on two sides of the cage to dec air flow a little. if you are really concerned about stagant air (like dodolah said) you may consider just putting strips about 4 to 6" wide. Generally the best way is to add plants and keep the soil as moist as tolerable by plants.

Hope that helps....

so its OK if some spots are low in humidity as long as the plants contain it.

lol im so paranoid.. i don't want to kill a 2 month old, thats my biggest conern. is keeping it warm/ moist/ and well fed.

like i said, ill prolly do small phoenix worms and 2 week old crickets/1 weeks...
not sure how to introduce cup feeding? can i do some in a cup and some walkin around?

well ill set my mister system to spray for 1 min when im not home twice a day, and ill spray in the morning and evening, i hope thats enough but not to much since he is so small, i read about drowning him with big droplets of water and other things.

and then directly under the heat lamp in the cage is really hot almost 114 *still about 76 mid cage*
at the very top, will he avoid this or should i get a lower wattage bulb?

Whoa whoa!!!
114 F basking spot for 2 mo jackson?
That is waaaayyy to hot even for veiled that age.
Get a lower wattage.

i moved the bulb WAY back, now it doesn't push over about 90ish.

so that should fix that problem,

final set up.

added a small hybiscus and ficus plant with the pothos and a branch, two vines..

still havn't figured out how to get him used to cup feeding.

you need to find a way to make that basking lamp fire from the top down into the cage for a number of reasons, the main one being that the sun is up in the sky =) so everything about a chameleon is engineered to recognize light and heat from above.

You should be able to use a much smaller bulb and just rest the fixture directly on the top of the cage. It doesn't have to be a "heat" bulb. just a 40 watt little ceiling fan light bulb will probably do.

that shou'd be simple enough to do, i could reposition the bulb above, just im still playin around

What is the ambient temp in the room?
I don't think you need the basking spot at all with that species ... especially at 2 months old.
Mountain chameleons need cool temps and high humidity.

well, now that i got a digital thermometer.

ambient during the day, can range to 75 with AC on, 80 without, 72ish misted,

at night its about 72ish to 64ish.

so yah . if i don't need the lamp i won't use it, but i was told to turn the lamp on in the morning to help warm him up after the night was done.

honestly if i don't need the lamp i would feel better not leaving it on when im not home.

well i went down to a 25 watt bulb, solved the problem doesn't seem to get over 80

as for humidity i just got the mister today from herp mist, so im hoping to have that set up tonight after class, it will be me playing with it to get it right.
