how would one add fencing to ones cage?
i have either 1 inch cube fencing, or otherthings to that matter that i want to add to my chams cage on the inside so he doesnt climb on the screen, but im not quite sure how i would do this. cant anyone help me out? how do you get the ends not sharp? buff them down. any ideas are welcome.

Hey, what I do is cut the plastic mesh to fit three sides of the cage (all but the front). For the ends, I make sure it is cut strait to prevent sharp edges from cutting the cham. Then I zip tie the three pieces together at the corners before I put them in the cage (you gotta make sure you fold them in the correct direction). Next I use a green twisty tie material from the craft section used for flowers (it comes in a big roll) to attach it to the screen cage (attach everything with the green tie) Here is a pic:

I hope this helps.

i think i have the idea. thank you. do you think this helps a lot? do you notice they use it or do they still use the screen?

It def helps :). No lost nails since. Like I said, only put it on the 3 sides so sometimes they climb on the door and ceiling, but most of the time they just hang on to the side.
The only thing that worries me about it, is sometimes the crickets hide behind it, and I'll see them shoot their tongue through the hole to get it. I'm scared the tongue would get caught or damaged from it, but thank god no problems yet, and we have been using it for a few months!

Where do you buy this mesh? and where they sell it.. does it come in different sizes? I need this stuff for my new silkies.

Well I found the mesh you are using Ibesok (I think) at Home Depot. It is a bit large for my Silkies to be on... But I might add it to the cages of my chams. Fred is nuts about climbing. I don't know if he thinks he can escape or just loves to climb everything in site. He will even try to climb the pothos pot. I will hear his nails scratching on it while he tries to grip it.

Glad you found it. Home Depot is where I get it to. Sometimes I can hear the nails grip the screen underneath even with the mesh. It's really hard to keep them off of it.

the same mesh works good as ladders. you can cut it in narrower strips and attach one end towards the bottom of the cage and the other towards the top. just make sure there are no sharp edges.

another thing to watch out for is that your chameleon cant get caught between the mesh. pick the size that works for your cham. don't get a size that your cham thinks it can squeeze through and ends up getting stuck in the mesh!

I don't use this fencing stuff but I thought of a good idea for all of you. The fencing you show looks like a wire, not a plastic weave, I assume that is correct. If so, for the sharp edges, dip them in, or paint on some plastic coating to cover the sharp parts. The stuff I'm talking about is sold in a can, usually comes in red and is meant to dip the handles or tools and such in. Kind of like a rubber grip. I think this will work...the stuff is pretty cheap and can be used for all sorts of projects. Please let me know how this worked out if anyone tries it, I'm curious to hear how it goes.:D

No need to dip it.... it comes with a plastic coating over it. At least its already painted if I'm wrong about the coating. The coating felt thicker than paint when I was looking at it the other day.

Summoner, for silkies you can use plastic canvas for arts and crafts available at walmart, michaels, etc

OK I saw that at Michael's and thought the mesh wasn't large enough to poop to fall through....... Maybe I should give it a try.

Here are some photos of older cage designs I had years ago. Just to give some more ideas.

The staples can be safely covered up with a dab of silicone or urethane.

will, is that sort of a frame inside a frame?
or is the screen on the outside of the wood and on the inside
is where the fence is?

From inside out:

Plastic Diamon Link Fencing > Wood Frame > Garden Sunblocker Fabric.

Only the door, bottom and top of this cage version had screen. The walls are fabric.
