ok so i would like to welcome myself to this forum i just got my chameleon last saturday and i need some help. So I notice that people always say when they feed there chameleon it is in a bowl well i don't think i can. I want to but i want him to eat. The cage that i have is 28x28x48 and it is a screen cage also my cham loves the top and he probably can't see the bottom since he is on a plant with lots a good amount of leaves. SO the final question is What should i do let him hunt or keep the bowl in the tank (if you need a picture please reply to this forum asking for one thank you!)

Welcome to the forums. How old is your Cham and what species? If it's a young Cham that's an awfully big cage. Hopefully, he will cup feed. I have a blog attached for new keepers. Please post some photos of your Cham and the enclosure.

well actually found out he was a she so the chameleon is 5 months old and she isn't tiny the tank is a good size for her she is a veiled chameleon and i am bowl feeding her but i want it to have a good tongue and learn how to hunt

You don't have to have the cup literally on the bottom of the cage to cup feed. You can hand in on a twig or zip tie it to the side of the cage etc. Just be creative.

its not at the bottom its at the top if that makes a difference i'll try the twig method i'm just nervous she will starve

I like using shoe-box sized plastic tubs. Hang one under a favorite perch, and let the bugs loose in it. Its deep enough that most bugs wont get loose (and the few that do provide extra enrichment,) and wide enough that she can still hunt the bugs a bit. When I have ones that dont want to cup/tub feed from a smaller container, I have always been able to get them to eat out of a shoe-box sized tub.

Also I just discovered this the other day but forgot. My cham wasnt eating out of his cup for a while and so I put in a fresh piece of lettuce around the bottom of the cup (mainly to keep the worms from falling through the holes) and bam he went for them right away. I think he just didnt like the plastic of the cup.

Does your cham poop in that?
Seems like that would be a problem, pooping in the food tub!!

I've had a couple do this, but I put a small drink cup in there and they started using that :) Easy to clean up poops! I also make sure not to put the tubs near their usual potty spots.
