How much UV

Hi guys

How much u.v do I need to put into my veiled Viv. I currently have 2 x 13 watt Eco terra 100 bulbs in the hood but I do have space for a 3 rd and reading the boxes it's says it only pushes uv out to 40cm or 15 inches but my Viv is 4 foot high. Any advice would be superb. Thanks as always.

Talk to one of the site sponsors from lightyourreptiles.com (just shoot him an email he is wonderful). He knows his stuff. For something 4' high, he would probably recommend 12% arcadia bulbs.

I'm no expert but most UVB bulbs won't have much affect past a few inches. Especially if it is going through a mesh screen on the top of the cage. That is why it is important to allow the chameleon to have a branch within 5-7" of the UVB where he can bask at. You also want to have cover for him lower in the cage should he want to be out of the UVB rays.

Yes be sure to have a basking spot about 6" away. And cover just as NHenn said. If you want to get technical with it. Buy a UV meter. The only accurate way measure.

This is now not the case if one is using the Arcadia HO t5s.
These can project UV much farther and with more potency than the old type bulbs.
But it is true, you do want to have some "UV Free zones" in the cage... just as in Nature.
It can be accomplished by some nice dense foliage.

Many different configurations can be done to customize UV levels to make them "tailor made" for each individual set up.
