How does this sound?

May have to stop buying crickets locally, the reptile store I go to in town recently has a retired Sire. Same markings, patterns as my guy and a high possibility its my Melons dad. So I took serious interest started to hold him and noticed a few things.

Opened mouth- Didn't hiss but coating of mucus between lips.

Legs seemed a bit warped, but I've seen this in older chameleons been told its the muscle, around the forearm not the knee. Not an expert in MBD.

Of course the regular no-no's: Standing water, glass aquarium, possibly 2X2X1 and substrate.

Same exact enclosure I got Melon out of- Which I saw as 'okay' considering they were babies.

The mucus is what worries me the most, warranted to call animal control?

I would speak to the owner or manager of the store before calling anyone. Maybe they know about the mucus and are treating an infection..........Perhaps they just never had a chameleon before and you can give them some tips. Maybe print off a good caresheet for them from here?

Well, yes that was my first reaction. Which I did, they sell Veileds and Jacksons in a regular biases from local breeders. When I mentioned it to both employees and the owner they said he looked 'fine'. As I'm not an expert on MBD, and the other husbandry flaws are forgivable given the time which is why I'm only really concerned with the mucus. When the owner tells me "Oh they absorb water more then they drink from the bowl" Tends to get you wondering.

Well, if you think it really looks sick and the owner seems not to be concerned enough then it's not unreasonable to report it. Probably nothing will get done, hopefully the cham recovers.

Thanks, I was more wondering if the mucus really is a RI or if adults tend to have -some- mucus etc. Seems most are scanning over the thread though.
