How Does an RO System Work??

I'm really  right now.

I talked to Marty from Mistking, and he told me I could hook an RO system up to my mistking from my washing machine.

I've seen the RO systems, watched videos on youtube, but am still unsure how you would tie the mistking to it.

Right now I'm buying distilled water and filling up a trashcan for the mistking.

If I got an RO system, would I have to take the water from the system and fill the trashcan or hook the mistking directly to it where it pulled from the system itself.

This is so , and I called a bunch of Aquatic stores, and nobody has any idea how they work.

Really really appreciate any help on this.

Get a RO, it is worth it!!! Just buy an inexpensive model that goes under your kitchen sink. It is easy as can be to install. Well worth the money, buy this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AQUARIUM-CO...754?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588fb7e56a

You will be very happy and it is easy to use. Works perfect for Mistking, Reef Aquariums, and Hydroponics.

with this system you just put a 5 gallon bucket in your sink and fill it up with RO. It takes about an hour to fill the 5 gallon bucket, but no biggy. Then you can fill your mistking resevoir. Too Easy!

Or if you really want to go all out like I did. You can buy a whole house water purification system, and run that into a whole house RO system. Then use the small RO under your sink and you will have perfect water throughout your entire home, dishwashers, washing machines, sinks, toilets, showers, and out spouts for washing your car!

You are the freakin' man Tkilgour!! I will get that one then. And holy crap that's amazing that you have your whole house run on purified water. That is awesome. Guessing it's pretty hefty expensive to do??

The total price for the entire home was $1200.00 and in my opinion well worth it. Our water is so hard it will ruin dishwashers, washing machines, and water heaters in a year.

Wow, that's crazy!! That's really not that bad at all to do the whole house. Not just for the chams but for our baby, too. We're here in Oklahoma, and I've heard our water is supposed to be terrible. I'm going to talk to my wife about this, she even has a filter on the shower. Did you do it yourself, is there a system you get, or did a company do it?

I use small unit to provide RO for my panthers. I have eight cages on my mister, so it uses about 5g every two days.

Depending on your demand, you can get an RO unit with variable gpd output. My favorite place for RO units is airwaterice.com. Buckeyefieldsupply.com has good systems and very good pricing on replacement cartridges.

Depending upon how hard your water is, you may want more prefilter stages so your RO membrane doesn't have to work as hard. Most suppliers are happy to direct you to a system that fits your needs best.

I ordered the products from a guy in florida and I will post the link:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Salt-Free-N...490?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0375319a
also has the whole house RO and under the sink RO. I did hire a plumber to install the whole house filtration system and whole house RO. I did the under the sink RO myself.

Just ask him what the best price he will sell that water conditioner for. I know he wants $1650 but he ended up selling me that with the whole house Ro and under sink Ro for $1300

I am also interested in what system you went with and who. I have been looking at the systems at www.airwaterice.com which look really good and have a fairly low replacement filter cost. I am looking at getting two of these systems soon.

I have a D&D RO system as I keep seahorses and marine fish and need one. It is absolutely brilliant using the RO on the reptiles as it leaves no water marks on the vivs when spraying (Cresties and Pygmy Chams are in vivs). In fact it's on at the moment and filling up a barrel, 3 more to go lol. More waste water is produced than RO and our water bill is pretty expensive but it is worth it. :)

You can hook an RO system right up to a misting pump, BUT you'll need an electric solenoid to stop the flow of water when the pump is not on. This is pretty simple. When the pump is on, the valve is on.

Here are some photos of how I have connected solenoid valves:

This is my Monster Misting system.

This is one of my RO installs at a customers home. The concept here in the photo is what you would need to do. The way you see it plumbed in the photo is not how you would connected to an RO system.... BUT imagine if you will, the tube from the filter housing is from the RO reservoir tank and the tube coming out of the valve is to your misting nozzles. The valve stops the flow of water through the pump and keeps the misting nozzles from misting continously even though the misting pump is off. Misting pumps do no stop the flow of water.

Thank you all for the input. This really really helps me out. And Kevin, that looks amazing!! And intense to set up. That's really the set up I would like to do, where the pump just pulls directly from the RO system. You say I need selonoid valves? Sorry, looking at all this just looks like backwards Japanese to me. So, let me see if this sounds right. You would take the hose coming from the pressurized RO reserve, send it to the misting system's input, than on the ouput of the misting system, there would be the selonoid valves that would stop the pressure? Is that right? Do you sell those valves?

Sorry if I'm getting this completely wrong, I'm still confused on how the RO works.

That is correct, what you explained back to me.

And yes, I do sell the valves. I sell them in DC voltage for mistking systems and in AC voltage for AquaZamp systems.
