I think Michaels sells plaster of paris. Mix it and pour it into a cookie cutter shape you like or a top to a jar, pour in the plaster then let it set for a few minutes, it sets fast, then gently press the hands\feet into it and get a toothpick and write what you want. Once its set, push out slowly from cookie cutter shape or dislodge sides from jar top till it comes out easy. Cokie cutters work well cause no backing.
My best friend is the bird lady and she memorializes her birds by wrapping in a special scarf then burying in a plant. the plants she uses are all ones that will grow to a good size that way she can take them with her if she moves. Once the plant is big enough to go into a half barrel, she burns the name of her bird into the barrel. I thought that was unique.
