How can this be possible?

So I decided to buy a humidifier and I figured I would buy one that does the whole house instead of trying to control the humidity in each cage which sounded like a huge pain. I have it set to 65% its right in front of the cages. Theres 2 fans on this humidifier one fan is in front of one cage the other fan is in front of the other. I also have a mist king that goes off every 2 hrs. 7 times a day for 1 min. I got home and could smell the humidity the air was so saturated the humidifier says its 69% humidity. but the cages said 40% I watched the mist king go off I watched the gauges on the digitals (Zilla Guages) go up to around 50% then drop off back down to 40% about 1/2hr later. I have some cheap analog gauges in the cages also which are at 70% when saturated from the mist king but read about 45% before the mist king went off. If I can feel the humidity in the air throughout the house how can this be possible when this giant humidifier is right in front of the cages? Frustrated!!! 3 sides plus half the top is wrapped in shower curtains!

Whats a good brand of gauges? They have to be wrong!!
Any comments suggestions would be great. If run this humidifier cranked like that all the time my house will be a mold ball in no time.

The humidifier supposed to do a 3000 sq. ft house. mine is 1500sq. ft. the room the chams are in is maybe 16X10.

My chams are panthers.

Thanks

The basking lights that you have over each cage are likely burning off the humidity directly in the cage. That would be my first guess.

Where is the probe? If its at the top under the basking lights, you will get a significantly different number than at the middle or bottom of the cage.

This is why I don't use humidifiers, because it's just too much trouble.
Though, people have had good success using them, I don't prefer them
because they are less effective and they are more complicated to work
with when setting them up. Plus, they tend to bother some chameleons.
I've had proof of that, and I have never had a chameleon that wasn't
bothered by it. That's my personal experience.

I prefer to use drip systems. They're simple, more effective, and they don't
bother chameleons like humidifiers do.

I hope you take this as help, because I always recommend drip systems
to my customers. This is my way of providing a solution and help. :)

If you prefer a humidifier, then that's fine :)
I hope you get that figured out if that is what you want to use.

I've used humidifiers in my free ranges and a good number of my panthers liked to sit right above the mist and just hang out. They would move to go bask and then come back a few times a day. I dont think I would use one in a cage except for a montane chameleon (and only sometimes/when needed) only because I wouldnt be able to set it up in such a way that they would be able to move far away from the mist. Plus panthers/veileds dont actually need all that high of a humidity as long as they get enough of water in my experience.

Alright I moved the humidifier away from the cages on the other side of the room and uncovered the tops of the cages. And the humidity seems to be holding at 48% now I'm wondering if I should un wrap the cages and let the room air flow threw it freely? I'm starting to think the fan from the humidifier was blowing on the sensor. I do have a drip system going with a drip pan under the enclosers but it's always wet and never dries out, that's no good right?

I would set your home/room humidifier for 55%, a comfortable setting for you and your home (you dont want mold) and let the drippers and mister handle the rest. if the room is at 50%, chances are you don't need to wrap the cages. Your gauge may be wrong (did it get wet? is it an indoor our outdoor type?) or too near the heat? set it mid cage.

edit - youre likely onto something re fan blowing on sensor.

doesn't matter if drip pan has a little water in it (so long as you clean it periodically). only be concerned if inside the cage remains wet all the time, especially at night
