You lucky girl!

Those are beautiful new editions!!

Not to change the subject but how is you Melleri doing?

I can't say with 100% certainty but both the hoehnelii and the ellioti look like females to me.

I thought the tiny hoehnelii and ellioti looked like girls. The second bigger one from Steve is a boy for sure. Nice boy bulge going on. :) Thanks Trace.

Love the pics:)
the tortoise you won't be able to know if its a boy or girl until its atleast 4+ inches.
its like that for all types of turtles and tortoises. so you will have to wait and see:)

So glad to see he (hoehnelii) made it okay. :) As it was very hot in Los Angeles yesterday. No matter how many times I ship, I always worry about the animals trip.

Beautiful hoes! Adorable little sulcata.

Speaking of sexing turtles...does anyone know at what age the species where the males have red eyes, the eyes are red?? Are they red from birth??

Box turtles have the different eye colors. Females have brown eyes and males have red eyes in most box turtle species. It is not from birth, they have to be sexually mature to tell (4+ years usually). I can send you pictures for comparisons if you'd like to see the difference...

I have a couple of species of boxies where the males have red eyes...but I got them as adults. I never thought about the age that the eyes became red before...just never crossed my mind or I could have looked at some at the reptile shows to see...but since the sexing topic came up here I just thought I'd ask.

Do you keep boxies?
Thanks!

I do! Have 6 right now - most of them rescues, one is the baby of my 3 legged 3 toed. His eyes were just a muddled color until he started feeling manly and now they're bright red. I have baby ornates and adult 3 toed boxes, plus 2 desert torts and 2 sulcatas (70+ pounds). Turtles have always been my favorite animal (especially boxes) even though chams are in close second :)
