If you can see him, he can see you. or he saw something that makes him feel threatened.
Bigger means badder in cham language.

Like camimom said, there is probabley something he can see. Just see if there's anything around the cage and if there is then move it. Or it might just be you

oh yeah i never thought of that hah but i just checked and nothing
and yes he was under his basking light !!

If he's not outside, its probably you. Do you have any other animals in the room? If so, that could also be it.
