Hey guys i just signed up for this forum. This is my first post. I will be getting a chameleon shortly. I just have a few questions. I have a lemon, mango, grapefruit, and avocado trees. I am wondering if they will be safe for my chameleon. Especially the grapefruit and lemon since they have thorns on them. Also is there any good websites where i can buy fake plants? I also found this stick in my yard that is perfect, it creates many perches at different heights in the cage. What can i do to be sure that the stick safe to put in my cage? And what website should i purchase my veiled chameleon at?

Hello! I have 1 veiled chameleon, and I am new to the forum as well. These ladies and guys are so friendly and helpful!

I do know that ficus and hibiscus are safe for chams. If you explore the forum/information it has a lot of great stuff, things I never knew/thought of before owning a chameleon.

What type of cham do you want to get? Do you know if you want a male or female? Females lay eggs regardless of if they mate, so that is very tricky, as I am learning. If they don't have a proper "lay box" they can become "egg bound" which means they simply do not lay the eggs, keep them inside of their bodies and die.

Good luck with your cham adventure. :)

I would like to get a male veiled chameleon because they don't lay eggs and live longer. I want to get one as a baby, and some sites say they don't let you choose sex when they are babies. So what ever happens happens. I will be happy with either one.

What plants do you have in your cage? And where did you buy it?

welcome. i dont know about the trees im not good with plants, as for the stick some members put them in the oven at like 300 for 15min to kill anyhting on them.. i personally just scrub them down with a little vinegar and water then rinse, dry and use...for places to get a cham i would start with the site sponsors or a local reptile expo...
again welcome and enjoy the forum and addiction that chams are

All of the trees you've listed above are fine for a chameleon. Thorny trees give chameleons a sense of security, and chams know better then to get hurt by the thorns.

Well welcome to the forums!

Here is a link to safe plants.

Make sure you do a lot of reading before you buy a cham. They are very unique and ADDICTING creatures! Great job on coming on here to learn more. Check out the site sponsors for a chameleon. I recommend using Tiki Tiki Reptiles as they are great to work with, just check out the site sponsors and chose who you like best. You can also take a look at the classifieds. Again, welcome :)

Awesome website. Im deff going to buy from tiki. I think im going to go with a Male orange crush veiled on there site.

Thanks for that comment about the thorns. I didn't know that they are that smart. Thats pretty cool.

Verify the Pics section. I saw several weeks ago a person that had new babies at home and he said he will sell the babies. If you can find him maybe it will be a little bit cheaper.
