I am new to having a male and female chameleons in the same enclosure. Today I received my Oustalet female and my big male was in his free range so I decided to hold her and slowly walk up to the branches. She climbed on and at first he didn't care, then he started bobbing his head up and down. Then for a while they both had their chins out as if they were mad. Then the female had her mouth open as he was getting closer. I took her out and put her in a cage now. Should wait and try again within a week or 2 and does it matter what age they are to mate? (I think she's a year younger than him) Also for any one with Oustalets, are the females very small compared to males? She is basically the size of his tail.

how old is she?

and if you just got her, you have to give her time to settle in.

I got her off of backwaterreptiles.com and it didn't say how old she was. All it told me was the size of her which is about 8 to 10 inches long.

I dont know anything about what size= what age.

however- you have to give her time to settle in before trying to breed her.
right out of the box is not smart, too much stress.

NTM- she already gave you the sign she wasnt ready by gaping at him.

it does matter what age she is, if she breeds to early, it can be detrimental to her health later on.

I would give her several weeks to settle in, and talk to someone who knows ousties to find out how old she is.

Yeah I should of thought about putting her in there first thing, but I was hoping it would of been okay first try. Do you have any tips on when she lays eggs either fertile or non fertile doesn't matter. I have a hibiscus plant in there right now at the bottom I was thinking that might be okay for her to dig if she has too for a couple of weeks till I get more soil and another bucket. And thank you for the info!

For females I would just get a bucket that is deep, for my female veiled i used a big bucket that was 13 inches deep with soil.

sinces shes a bigger species, i would give her more to dig in.

when she starts to lay, leave her alone. dont watch her, feeder her, etc.
