Help with new veiled chameleon!

Sorry.. I forgot to ask one question:
With gut-loading the crickets, everything I read says "feed the crickets" but don't really specify how lol! Do I just put the gut-load mix straight in my cricket box or should it be in a bowl, etc.?
 
I like to feed first thing in morning when he he's warmed up. Try holding bowl in front of her. Chams in general wont eat anything dead. It's best to remove crickets at the end of the day as they will have lost their gutloading. Gutloading is a mix of dry and wet food for your crickets. I sprinkle some dry an floor of cricket box and put in some fruit is veg in a dish in box.:)

I've looked up on the brands you and Carol suggested for supplements and I can't get them here but I can't get them shipped.
I'm going to do my very best to get the Calcium (the one I sent the pic of), UVB Lamp and Thermo/Hygrometer tonight.
If the shipping takes a week or 2 to get the Calc w/D3 and multivitamin, will she get sick?

I can get the Nutrobal from the UK.. if I get this do I also need a Calc w/D3??

No .nutrabol has both. I have an adult panther who I feed every second day. I use plain calcium most feeds and nutrabol once a week. There are a lot of factors that influence supplementing as you will learn on here but until you learn more I would keep it simple as above.:)
 
New member, new veiled chameleon owner.

Your Chameleon - Veiled chameleon, female, just got her sunday. She is about 10 wks old.
Handling - once a day. She seems to be happier when I am holding her.
Feeding - We have been trying to feed her crickets (gut loated of course) and worms
Supplements - We dust them with zoo med repti calcium
Watering -I have been spray misting four times a day. I have yet to see her drink or eat anything
Fecal Description - ne feces
History - At the pet store she was very green and healthy looking very active and alert and she seemed well fed.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - it is a screened enclosure 4'x2'x2'......2' off the ground
Lighting - We have repti sun 5.0, and 100 watt bulbs in shop lighting (2)
Temperature -the cage floor is 75, basking is 85
Humidity - humiditity is 50. We live in Louisiana. It's always humid here.
Plant- we have 3 live plants two pothos and one that starts with and "S" I can't remember the name. It was on that was recomended.
Placement - It is in our living room. We do not turn the fan on.
Location - Louisiana, just east of new orleans.

Current Problem - She hasn't eaten or drank anything since we got her. She stays on her vine (which is black) She is black unless I take her down and handle her. Please help. I don't know waht to do.
 
I am the only one that is here during the day until my husband gets home from work. there realyy isn't much traffic.

Hi Suellen78 and welcome to the forum. Could I ask you to go to the health page and at the top left corner you will see "new thread " please click on there and start your own thread and I'm sure someone will come along to help you.:)
 
to the op you could increase her heat a little bit in the basking spot up to maybe 85-88 max but this may help her appatite a bit also try bee pollen and spiruluna in your gutload as it should also help stimulate appatite a bit try different feeders be sure they are only the size of the space between her eyes or she might not even look at them nevermind eat them and lots of water she will need extra misting and a dripper running aswell to get her hydrated see if you can get small horn worms and silk worm where you are they will help with food and water all in one hope this helps :):) i wish you best of luck and i will also keep checking in on this thread to see how she is doing

It turns out not one pet shop in this country supplies supplements! I'll have to place an order online tomorrow... I spoke to the guy at the pet shop I got her from and he's going to get in the UVB tube and fitting for me as they didnt have the right stuff there hopefully it won't take longer than a few days for everything to get to me!
How much of the supplements should I order? I wouldn't mind getting enough to last a few months to save on shipping.

One quick thing that I haven`t seen mentioned by anyone giving advice and suggestions (all good, I might add!), I realise you LOVE handling your chameleon but since she is new to you and still getting used to her new home, you may NOT want to handle her for the first week or two as this can add to the stress of moving and getting used to a new routine. If, once your lighting, lack of plants and supplementing issues have settled down, she is still not eating or drinking it could be due to handling. Just a thought. Good luck!
 
Yes! Keep the handling to a minimum so the cham can get acquainted with it's new home! They go on hunger strikes when stressed. My cham barely ate for a few days after getting him. I was so worried! I kept checking in on him. I was told to let him get used to his environment and let him have some alone time. I stopped monitoring him so closely and let him be. He started to eat and drink normally after that. They need time and space. I wouldn't want to eat if I were stressed out and someone was constantly eyeballing me. LOL! :p
 
Thanks guys! I did see your messages and I've let her be the last 2 days :) I've had to poke my head close to the cage a bit though because I can't find the crickets easily and I'm not sure if she's eaten if I can't find crickets! :p
She's only eaten 1 yesterday and again today, but they really aren't digested well at all.. I'm quite sure she's getting enough water as the little hose from the drip bottle is near where she hangs out under the basking lamp and I've seen her drink from there.
I was able to get the UVB lamp.but I had to order it from the US so I'm trying to instill some patience while I wait for it! Supplements are one their way as well. With the amount of reptiles sold here it's astonishing to find that not one pet shop has the basic needs for such animals!
Her colour is starting to brighten. She's not magnificently bright but it's an improvement and I'm going to try mealworms for her breakfast tomorrow with a few little pieces of pear.. I'm hoping that will encourage her appetite and maybe the worms will be easier for her to digest?
I'm going to get her some more plants to hide in as well.
Any other suggestions?
I just really want her to be happy and eat!!!
