Help with a baby veiled..

The lamp should be 6-8" from the cham. From what it sounds like you have the lights on top of the screen cage he is in (that is on its side...) and that makes his lights about 14-18" from your cham. This isn't useful to him. I have a tub for my baby Melleri and I have a 5.0 lamp that sits across the top of the tub. This makes the lamp at about 6-10" from the little guy as he moves around the tub.

You should keep him warm, low to mid 70's with a basking area that might warm up to low/mid 80's. If you place a piece of fruit on a flat dish and sprinkle fruit flies onto the fruit the little guy will have easy pickings (flies will stay on the fruit). If you have pin heads, that should work as well. I would also place paper towels down on the bottom of the tub. Tear the sheets off one at a time and cover the bottom of the tub by overlapping the towels. Give him some things to climb on.. clean sticks that you've baked in your oven for 10-15 minutes at 400*. Be sure to soak down the towels by misting them, this will keep up the humidity during the day. put HOT water into the misting bottle and mist your wrist to check the 'misting' temp, it should feel warm. soak him down for a couple of minutes. you might want to melt a couple of small holes into the tub with a burning hot metal hanger. This will allow the water to drain out by having the tub tilted to one corner where you have the holes.

thanks for all your help man... unfortunatley the lil guy passed =( and i am going to call about possibly paying a little more for a larger cham that isnt so fragile. I understand that they require alot of work and as a first time cham owner, maybe one so young wasn't the best idea.

:( sorry to her that blacky... a juvi (4-6 months) would definitely be a better fit for a first time cham owner.. great advice and pics summoner.

Sorry to hear about your little one. From what you described to us, it doesn't seem like you did anything extreme enough to have caused his demise in just 2 days. It may have been the stress of the trip. Or just his young age. I agree, go for a juvenile, over the 3 month mark. One 4-6 months is a great age, as Forever Endeavor said.

Yea thats exactly what I am going to look for. I really appreciate everyone's advice. I just talked to the store right now and they are giving me in store credit. So I am going to use that twords a cham that is about 4-5 months old

LLLreptile should be slapped for what they have sold you , a 3 or 4 week old veiled isnt even strong enough to take that kind of stress , they arent even through there most critical time yet , and thats right up and until there 3 or 3.5 months old, all i would do is get your money back from LLLreptile and buy from a reputable breeder that actaully cares what they sell you , LLLreptile buys whole salers clutches, so they could buy 3 or 5 different clucthes of babies for whole sale then turn around and sell them soo young to try and make there money back , iv heard good things about them with supplies but with animals iv seen it way to many times they sell way to young of an animal to a unexpeirence keeper and it eventually dies so buy from a reputable breeder like pams chams , or kammerflage creations or screameleons they are reputable breeders known for the exceptional care of there animals and the well being of the animal is the most important thing to them and they will help you along road say 2 or even 5 yrs down the road but i dont see lllreptile helpin ppl along to way if you ask me they should just stick to supplies and not animals

Yea i deff learned the hard way =( but I think I am going to get one from a member here Julirs

My advice is to purchase your cham from Juliers of one of the others that have veileds. They are very healthy and guaranteed.

You will be really excited with your purchase. What a difference you will find in these big, older guys. Let us know how it goes and update us with photos of your new dude.

Sorry to hear about your little one. If you do get another one I've read allot of good stuff on here and seen lots of photos of Julirs babies and they look really good and healthy.

So sorry to here that the little guy didn't make it. Definitely get a veiled from Juli, I have a male from the same clutch, his colors are more amazing everyday and he is growing like a weed. That store credit can be spent on so many things other than a herp.

yeah I plan on getting the calcium and what not with it :)

Get the 3 rep-cal supplements advised in the bible for veiled chameleons:
http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/

I have my guy from the same clutch on a supplement schedule of:
-4-5 days out of the week lightly dust half of the day's worth of crickets with calcium w/o D3 (backed down to 3-4 times a week at 6 months)
-once every other week with calcium w/ D3, at six months old this needs to be backed down to once a month at 6 months
-once every month with the herptivite supplement

Note: There are a lot of different opinions on how often and how much to supplement, but through my research I believe this is what is best for my veiled, Dante. Do your own research on this and come up with the schedule that best fits your chameleon's needs.
Good luck with the new guy, he'll be a beauty for sure.
