what other signs of a respitory infection should one look out for?

But if yours has it open only at basking and maybe little after, then it's to hot for him.
Sometimes out thermometers are little off, just drop your basking temp my 5 or 10C and see if it gose agay. Same thing happened to me. It's like dogs have mouth open when it's to hot.

Goobery eyes, "gulping" for air, stress coloration, going off their feed, and.. this is about the most obvious.. when they are climbing around with their head facing the floor of the cage.. sometimes they will drool long ropey nasty URI drools. Early signs are somewhat sunken eyes even though they are getting plenty of water and stringy saliva.

I have just had my smaller watt basking lamp on today and I havn't seen her with her mouth open all day only too eat.
So it looks as though she was too hot as sugested by your very good and well appreciated posts
