This seems like a great place to be. Plenty of information and friendly people. I'm glad we found you.

I have been keeping reptiles for over 20 years now. My two daughters (9 and 11) have grown up with the hobby and love it. My wife has been warming up to the lizards over the years but does not like the ball python (which of course is kept in our bedroom).

We also have a bearded dragon which is about 8 years old. 'Danny' was my youngest daughters first word. The power of the dragon!

My wife saw a baby chameleon a few weeks ago and thought it was cute. So taking that cue, the next time the girls and I went to the local reptile store we came back with a 3 month old Panther. He/she is definitely getting lots of attention and my wife is even into taking care of it. Just got the cage all set up the way it needs to be and just need to add the Mist King which is coming Tuesday. This is my second chameleon with my first being a female Senegal I had a long time ago.

Other reptiles I have had: Iguanas, ball pythons, and a savannah monitor.

Welcome to the forum...its a great place to learn things about chameleons. Quite a few of us have other reptiles too.

Welcome from another AZ guy. Did you get it from pets inc.? If so those are VERY small for their age. post up pictures for sure!!

They had been there for a while so I am wondering if it's a lack of food or care that they are so small. They just didn't seem like they were growing much over the month or so I have been watching them.

I agree. I go there almost every weekend just to look at their stuff. Have you seen the panther there with mbd? I feel so bad for it :( but i dont' think it's for sell cus they are takeing care of it? I think that's why it's kinda hidden in the corner.

Yes to my knowledge the older vailed and the panther with MBD and the two babies were all just dropped off because the owners couldn't take care of them. I took some hornworms to help the vailed get rehydrated but none of them were for sale initially. They now are trying to sell the panthers as well as the vailed male. I don't know that they are ever going to be able to sell the adult panther and not sure they get enough moisture or attention to get them better.

I know what you mean. When I first went there and saw that they had all of them the veiled's eyes were really sunken in and the jacksons they had there had it's eyes closed. I was surprised cus they were the people who talked me out of getting a Jackson's as my frist chameleon last december because they weren't as hardy as a veiled. I don't think they will sell the adult panther unless someone is willing to pay vet bills etc. It's kinda sad.

It was the larger of the 2 at Pets Inc. I talked with one of the customers there who had been keeping an eye on them since they got there and she said they had been eating well and active. Estimating it is about 3 months old. Here is a pic of when we just got it home.

I think you might have talked to me! Were you with your two daughters? I remember talking to guy there about them.

Ahhh, so your to blame!!! He/she is doing very well and is doted on by the girls.

Thats good. I'm glad you found this site. It's awesome. I was just at petsinc this morning and the other panther seemed about the same size as when you got yours. Did you figure out if it's a male or female? I was leaning towards them both being a male. Glad he's doing awesome.

No, not too worried about sexing. We'll figure it out when it gets a little older. My 8 year old is a specialist now. We went to Petsmart in Queen Creek and she disappeared. When I found her she was lecturing the girl in the fish department on how they weren't keeping their chameleons correctly and that they shouldn't have bowls of water, they needed a drip system. The girl wasn't too happy to be lectured to but what could she say to an 8 year old?

That's hilarious. I would post pics of the rear end so we can sex it. If it's a girl you will need a laying bin in her cage when she gets older. But they both loooked like males at petsinc.

So the girls decided on Smeagal for a name. Hmmmm. He/She is doing well. For the first week I kept his crickets in a deli cup at the bottom of the cage and he would go down every morning for breakfast. Last night I took the cup out and this morning he was waiting on the branch where the cup should be. He recoiled and tried to hide when I put the cup in with a few crickets. After he ate those, I took the cup out and put a few more crickets in. This time he just sat there watching me and then ate the rest of his breakfast. He's getting used to us and his new environment. Today's project is the Mist King!
