Heaving sounds?

I have had my Red Bar Panther Chameleon since February of this year. He will be a year old in August. The last few weeks I have noticed that he is making a sort of huffing sound. It doesn't sound like a hiss, and he isn't being territorial towards me by any means, since he comes right over to me after he does so. He is still very active, eating like usual, and is drinking regularly. I'm not too sure if it is something that Waldo is doing all the time, since I am a student in college and I do work as well, but I am genuinely concerned about his well being and I would love any advice that may calm me down about the topic..

Thankyou!:)

It is hard to say what's going on. Chams can make various puffing sounds when reacting to an intruder (like you, even if he isn't getting very upset), but to rule out something else like a respiratory infection watch for the following:

If he stops eating, drinking, or moving around as he usually does.
If he starts sitting under his basking light longer than usual especially if the temps in his cage haven't changed. Sick chams tend to perch dark colored under their lights a lot more.
Sleeping during the day.
Sleeping at night resting with his head tipped straight up.
Lots of sticky saliva showing in his mouth.
This is where direct observation of him while he's making these sounds is important...if he sits with his head tipped snout up, expanding his throat and gulping air over and over again.

I have a red bar as well who will be a year old in august as well. I got him from chameleonsonly.com Mine occasionally makes a hissing noise to, from what i've noticed its only in the mornings when he just wakes up. It is kind of a ritual. He yawns, hisses oncec or twice and doesnt do it at any other time unless he gets upset with me or someone else in the house. Mine is very dull in color and is very skinny, but thats due to the fact that he has stopped eating crickets and roaches, I have silkworms on the way which should be here tomorrow. He loves worms, i just dont want to give him to many superworms and waxworms. Does your guy do it at any particular point in the day? Also have you made any recent major changes to his cage or surroundings, sometimes the stress can make them do, but it depends on the cham. You should take some pictures of your little guy and post them for us to see! Best of luck keep us updated on other out of the ordinary habits.

Thank you! That helps a lot. He hasn't been doing any of that so it makes me believe he is just being bothered by my presence at times. :)

Has he been growing at a good pace? Mine sheds once a month, and is slowing down as he ages, since I have gotten him. He is the most vibrant orange color right now that I have ever seen. I believe it is going to go to a a deep red when he is done developing his colors since his dad was a beautiful red. Waldo does it at any time of the day, and it is only one quick huff telling me he doesn't want to be touched. When I go in to see him and he doesn't do it, he comes wandering right out of his cage. He still has a huge appetite for crickets and is starting to love grapes as well. He loves horn worms, but I only get him those once a week for a treat. I will have to get some new pictures since he has grown and developed a lot of more color since I took some the last time!:)
