Heating Question! URGENT!!

My ambanja panther is arriving tomorrow morning, and my heating bulb burned out tonight. The breeder, West Coast Chameleon Brothers, says a 60 watt is what they use and a 100 watt would burn him. My new bulb is a 75 watt, and the basing branch is 7 inches away from the top of the cage. Is 75 watt too much or will it be okay?

75 watt house bulb is often what I use except for my montane species. I agree it all depends on you basking spot range. The relative air temps can contribute too. And remember a younger chameleon often need cooler basking areas.

I have a hard time heating up my cage so I use 150 watt and it is perfectly fine. I wouldn't worry too much about the wattage, just make sure the temperature is right.

The planets furthest away from our heat source, the sun, are frozen! I use ceramic infrared heat emitter bulbs! They are not expensive and last for ever! Well nearly!

What? You lost me on this one. lol

I also use ceramic heat bulbs as well. Love, Love LOVE them. I can use them with my Jacksonator or even with a lamp dimmer to precisely get the temp I need, where I need it.

Just throw your hand in the cage and get it as close to the bulb as you can or as the chameleons could when climbing around. If you can hold it there for a minute without any discomfort or needing to move your hand because it is too hot then the temperatures in that area are fine for your chameleon and won't cause a burn. If you need to move you hand because of the heat or you are just barely able to keep it there then I would suggest moving the fixture away from the cage more or getting a lower wattage bulb.
