90-95 is the sweet spot for adult male veileds. Raise the bulb higher, lower the basking branch just a bit, or swap to a 75w.Hello, I have a male Veiled Chameleon approx. 1yr old. What should his basking temperature be? I put a 100w and it is 88 degrees. I tried a 150w and it is now at 97 degrees. Which bulb should I use?
Is there a way to hang a basking lamp on his screen cage?Hi there. So an adult male veiled should be between 90-95 at basking. So if you are testing the temp at the branch that he sits on and it is showing 88 on the branch then it is going to be about 90ish where his back hits and 92 ish where his casque hit even closer to the heat. So I would go with the 100 watt. But bulb type does make a difference having a spot heat bulb can be hotter so you have to be careful with how close he can get to the bulb. Laser heat guns are helpful when trying to figure out the right temps as well. Paying attention to signs of him gaping when basking is a tell tell sign that it is too hot as well.
Theres a clamp you can purchase for your deep dome. I personally use 2- 2x4s on their sides then put the dome on top of the 2c4s.Is there a way to hang a basking lamp on his screen cage?
I just use a Phillips plant light bulb 50 or 60w. Kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Great for my chameleons and light for my plants. Also they're only about $5 at Lowes. Can anyone recommend a good brand bulb and life expectancy please
