Heat Question?

is it alright if it gets too hot to turn the heat lamp off for a little while until it cools down

Short answer: yes. More importantly, what wattage bulb? How far from basking site? What is your basking temp?

its a 60 watt house bulb as reccomended by flchams and its a little over a foot away the temp is at about 90 but its because im upstairs so when it gets hot out my room gets just as hot

of course , but a more appropriate action would be to downsize the wattage of your basking bulb so that you are using the minimum wattage required to achieve the desired temps without regulation , much safer in the event your cham decides to climb on the wire directly under the bulb while you are not watching. as a general rule always safest to use the minimum wattage you can get by with

im in california. been a heat wave for almost a month. my room temp has been averaging 80-95f. on the hotter days i dont use the basking lights for the chams. my basking lights are 85-88f. room hotter then the 38 watt bulbs i use.
