heat pad for dubias

Are you feeding or breeding? If your just feeding then room temp will be ok as long as it doesnt get below 70, If your breeding then Yes you need a heat source, What are you keeping them in? when I started I just used a human heating pad that i bought at the pharmacy, make sure it doesnt have auto off. Set the end of the tote (i assume thats what your using) on the heating pad with the pad under the bedding, you should be able to use med heat level, just check the temp after an hour or so just above the heating pad (you want a section between 85-90 degrees), and you should be set. You only want one end at temp so they can move to and from the heat when they need to. That should take care of it unless you go bigger, then there are better alternitives

I am getting them to breed and will have in a large rubbermaid container. I just don't know whT would be the best size. I'm going to be at lll reptile in 5 minutes

Make sure you get something to control the heat output. 20-30 gal tanks can reach 120F easy; that'll kill your roaches.

You can get an expensive rheostat or just a light dimmer.

Im breeding mine right now... I have a rubbermaid 12x12x24 whatever gallon amount that is? and I put in vertical egg crates on either side with food in the middle and I put the whole tub on an old audio receiver/amplifier that keeps it a constant 92 degrees (Im poor lol) and they are breeding real well... already 20 babies in a week so some were pregnant but I have a zero mortality rate.

Shit I got home and it was at 107. I took it off and am trying to see what it will be if I mount it to the side instead.

I put my heat pad on the bottom, the temperature on the bottom of my tub reaches about 100 degrees the air about 1 " off the ground (in the egg crates) is about 90 degrees, then it gets colder (down to about 75 Degrees) as you move up to the top.

It's in a 50 gallon. I ended up getting a zoomed heater. It's 93 on the very bottom, is that too hot

This is what I was using for mine. I came home from work one day and smelled burning plastic, turns out my heat pad went nuts and got super hot and put a small hole in my roach bin, Im just glad I caught it in time to prevent a roach escape or even a house fire. After that happened I read the heat pad manual and it mentioned in there a few times to never use them on plastic, only glass. Just a word of caution for all you out there currently providing dubias heat in this manner.

well crap I didnt read the manual. What are you using now?

i have mine in a 2 large cricket keepers and i just set the on top of the dish box and bammm they love it and breed happily, iv never once checked temps.... just keep them well fed and watered and thats how i got mine to have babies.

I would still like to know what the upper limits of heat are for these guys...I would love to keep them in the garage but in AZ...that's HOT. I mean they are roaches they should be fine. Right? I guess I will find out because I have a thousand coming lol

I'd like to know to so I don't have to worry about it getting too hot in my closet. Someone said they will die if it gets too hot but what is too hot?

I think I figured out a solution for the zoo med heater. Since it should only be used on glass I just mounted it on a piece of glass and put another strip of glass over it so the heater isnt in direct contact with the rubbermaid container.

Thought I would throw my ghetto penny pinching two cents in here... Ive been using an old receiver turned on and the heat from the metal case keeps the bucket a steady 92 degrees and I keep it in the laundry room and that keeps the humidity up... Not one death from overheating, under heating, under humidity or ANYTHING! just thout I say I was kinda proud of that free little setup :)
