I bought 3 land snails from Snailsinthemail. they bred and laid eggs. I have been growing out the babies in a baby tank. Today I grabbed the biggest one, the size of a pea, and gave it to my Jackson. He gets a bit nervous when I'm messing about in his cage, but when he spotted the snail he forgot all about me. LOL He saw it, and went after it immediately! Om nom nom, no more baby snail. :D Next time I'll have the camera ready so I can take a picture. I've never seen him go after a prey item that fast! I wasn't sure if he'd even be interested in something so small. I hope they keep producing, they're the perfect little treat. :)

Melissa,

I too bought snails from the same seller! They have since bred and I have about 36 baby snails from one snail so far. I've been offering them lettuce and carrots and calcium bones meant for birds to peck at. They seem to like it. Have you tried anything else?

Good luck with your snails! I'll be offering a few of mine up before too long :)

Hi Cap, they are so cool to watch. I've been feeding them about the same stuff as you have. They really like cucumbers, too! Not too keen on apples, but because they slimed it, it didn't turn brown, lol. I sprinkled a little Calcium powder without D3 on their food, but I like the cuttle bone idea better!

I use cuttle bone and also sprinkle the plain calcium every so often. I have found they like greens, carrots, cucumber, squash, zucchini, red and orange bell peppers, mango, and papaya.

Very cool. :) Maybe I could give them some of the cricket gutload I make. It's pretty much a bit of everything.

They can all eat them, but not all like them. My jackson goes nuts for them but the two panthers and bearded dragon want nothing to do with them. I got my frog to eat a small one once and he spit it out.

What do u guyz keep your snails in? What sudstrate?

I am thinking of buying some, but with my luck, my guyz will turn their noses up at them

I keep mine in a rubber maid type sweater box with holes drilled in the lid, and soil with leaves on top. If you have a Jackson I'd go for it! :)

Yeah snails are pretty easy to take care of...I imagine if I had more leaves and things involved in the substrate and a small herd of isopods that cleaning the substrate wouldn't be a requirement. I clean the walls at least of the little turds they leave behind....everywhere.

The cuttle bone is easier than sprinkling calcium because it doesnt get soggy like the sprinkled calcium does.

By the way, did you happen to discover the eggs by chance or did you see one of the snails laying the eggs? I caught my first one laying so I knew where the eggs where - about an inch under the substrate. I don't feel right hunting through the substrate though for any eggs right now as this might come across as rude ;)

I missed the egg phase, but caught them coming out the nesting hole. They were all bunched around the hole, so I think they had just hatched. It was less than a month from the time I got them, so I think they had mated prior to being shipped.

With my adult snails I see them dig down and lay eggs. The eggs only take a couple weeks to hatch. I use a mixture of organic soil, sand and moss for the substrate. I put sturdy leaves in there along w plastic cups that are cut in half for huts. I clean them out every couple weeks. If you let it dry out most will climb on the walls, then you can clean the soil. I then knock them all off the walls and clean the walls.

Since they dig, have deep do you put your soil substrate?

Needs to be at least an inch of soil. And a lid that is mesh works best as baby snails are tiny and can get out of the metal aaquarium lid holes.
