He just doesn't like dubia's...anyone else have this issue?

I love dubias. They are cheap, clean, and easy to maintain.

But over the past 3 weeks I have been feeding out of my dubia colony, Clark's food intake has gone down and recently he has started to show mild health issues....Originally I was under the impression that the dubias were bigger so he just ate less, but now I am certain that is not the case.

Just incase, I went out and bought 100 crickets yesterday. If I hold up a cricket, he will immediately go into "aim/feed" mode and pick it off. If I hold up a dubia, he will also go into aim mode, but after a few seconds he analyzes what it is, and IGNORES it. If I put down the dubia and hold up a cricket, he will immediately eat....I repeated this experiment 3 times today with the same results :\ He will eat dubias on occasion, but like I said the amount he has been eating has gone from 10ish crix a day to like 3-5 dubias....and most recently has some abnormal behaviors (going to the doc tomorrow) Also he only eats the dubias if they are free-ranged, but takes crickets from my hand/cup/wherever without a beat.

This is making me :(. I do not want to go back to crickets...the past 3 weeks have been so lovely!! Or if there is some reason he is ignoring the dubias? Is my presentation wrong? I can't really see how it could be

I'm just curious if others have experienced problems with picky eaters?

he's over it..somtines they are as picky as people...personally mine dont like them..i would have bred them instead of crickets...

They are just like us and don't like certain things. I could never not have crickets because they are Luie's favorite food.

and my little stinker refused crickets once AGAIN today!

My little fella' loves to refuse crickets from me. Usually he's fine, he'll pick em off one by one, just the odd day he's like nah, please give me the worm kind sir, and I'm just thinking to myself, you fat chameleon you.

Guess I should try get some dubias and see if he enjoys them. He loves his Silkworms, calci-worms and waxworms but I really try to stick clear of waxies and calcies to maybe one every few days.

well that sucks! are you trying the young dubais? they are softer and dont have the prickly legs. if you do feed off the adults, i would remove the rear legs.

yea i'm feeding off the nymphs, my guy is only ~8 months old and quite the runt (last weighing he was not yet 40grams).

he just doesn't like them i guess....which sucks for me!

so anyone need some roaches in orange county? haha

All of mine have different favorite foods. Some are very particular and some eat anything. Sometimes they will refuse something for a while and then decide it's their favorite. I always have several bugs available for the brats!

if you do decide to sell your colony let me know - I'm looking for local roaches. I also have a lot of super worms. If you haven't tried them I can give you some samples - unless he's too little for them still. Most of mine LOVE them and my male veiled will only eat those and silks.

Switch up the gut load all the time.I had that problem because I was useing oranges for there water so they all tast the same. I switch around water, carrot, apple, mango, greens, different dry gut loads too. and they think they are getting a different bug all the time. but I also offer 10 kinds of feeders to keep them wanting more.:D
