I love dubias. They are cheap, clean, and easy to maintain.
But over the past 3 weeks I have been feeding out of my dubia colony, Clark's food intake has gone down and recently he has started to show mild health issues....Originally I was under the impression that the dubias were bigger so he just ate less, but now I am certain that is not the case.
Just incase, I went out and bought 100 crickets yesterday. If I hold up a cricket, he will immediately go into "aim/feed" mode and pick it off. If I hold up a dubia, he will also go into aim mode, but after a few seconds he analyzes what it is, and IGNORES it. If I put down the dubia and hold up a cricket, he will immediately eat....I repeated this experiment 3 times today with the same results :\ He will eat dubias on occasion, but like I said the amount he has been eating has gone from 10ish crix a day to like 3-5 dubias....and most recently has some abnormal behaviors (going to the doc tomorrow) Also he only eats the dubias if they are free-ranged, but takes crickets from my hand/cup/wherever without a beat.
This is making me
. I do not want to go back to crickets...the past 3 weeks have been so lovely!! Or if there is some reason he is ignoring the dubias? Is my presentation wrong? I can't really see how it could be
I'm just curious if others have experienced problems with picky eaters?
