handling

does anyone here have a chameleon that likes being taken out of its cage and being handled. I know that it sometimes depends on the chameleons personality but is there anyway that you can get a chameleon to like being handled?

My panther Popeye loves being out. I have handled him since he was a baby. Have you tried hand feeding and letting him/her associate your hand with food. You could also try placing a stick in front of his front feet for him to climb on. It is soo useful to do so as it takes the stress out of vets visits and viv cleaning.

Sometimes Darwin will climb right out on my hand and other times he will give me the run around. I'm just glad he's not a hisser (so far anyway)

Free ranging is a great help in getting chameleons comfortable being around people and being handled. Hand feeding is another good idea.

All of our chameleons at least tolerate being held, some more so than others. They are hand fed as well, most of them free range all the time, some that are caged get daily free range time. They are all used to seeing people and other chameleons, no one is hidden away in some quiet room.

With the chameleons we hatch we handle them from the start so it is just normal for them.

My veiled loves attention, which is very rare especially for veileds. I wouldn't be surprised at all if a chameleon doesn't want to be handled, these are definitely creatures of beauty and like to be left to be watched. But if you want him/her to get used to you, hand feed and show yourself frequently. NEVER make a cham come on you if it doesn't want to, unless it's completely necessary. Good luck

My veiled loves being out. Even as a baby, she was very social. Takes her a couple of days to get used to new faces. She doesn't seem to be too fond of my mum! It's cool to see though! The side of her body facing my mum turns black while the side facing me stays light green!

just work with them, i have 4 chams a meller and three vieleds and i have never had any problems with them being held and what not but i hold them everyday or let them out of there cage everyday, just work with him take him out and put him in a vine or something close to you and repeat that until he trusts you enough then you should be able to hold him no problem
