Handling/acclimating?

I'm trying to acclimate my new Ambilobe, and I've had him for almost a month. He seems pretty skittish?! If he's in the middle of his cage on a branch, he tries to hide behind it when I come in the room. I tried to handle him once, and he turned almost complete black and white, walked quickly from my hand around my shoulders and back into his cage, and then walked around restlessly for an hour. I have no intention of handling him frequently or for any extended period, but I would like to get him more comfortable with human presence. Obviously, he's not into hand feeding either. Any suggestions?

Keep your activity around his cage on some sort of daily routine. Putting lights and misters on timers helps it be a little more predictable. Chams like routine. He will get used to your presence eventually. Chams are individuals so some are shyer than others. How old is he? Juveniles are naturally shyer as they are inexperienced and sense they are more vulnerable. As he matures he may be fine.

If he won't hand feed you can try holding a familiar feeder cup by hand and see if he'll start taking the feeders from it rather than your hand directly.
